elevated kLM6N Obituary

elevated kLM6N Anthony (Tony) Gervasio  — June 23,1924 – November 25, 2025

elevated kLM6N In his 102nd year, Tony left us peacefully, surrounded by the deep love of his family and in the comfort and tranquility of his home – his favourite place to be. He is survived by his cherished and loving wife of 72 years, Lucia (nee Tenore), who was his lifelong partner and constant source of strength. He was not only her fierce protector, but also chief taste-tester of her delicious meals and baked goods. They built a life grounded in love, resilience and unwavering commitment.  Together they loved to dance and sing and enjoyed a wonderful circle of friendships.

elevated kLM6N Tony was the cherished father of Mary DiCaro, the late Vincent Gervasio, and Mina Fior; beloved father-in-law to Joe DiCaro and Loris Fior; infinitely proud nonno to his precious grandchildren Angelo DiCaro (Nadia), Rosemary Gomes (Tony), Lauren Fior Plata (Greg), Julia Gervasio, and Michael Fior (Alessia); adoring bis-nonno to Noah, Damian, Gabriella and Milania.  Meticulously cared for and loved by the family’s angel on earth, Matilde and her husband Alberto, whose endless support enabled Tony to live a safe, happy and the dignified life he so deserved, right to the end. For this we are eternally grateful. Tony nurtured a strong bond of togetherness, with overflowing memories of family celebrations and pasta Sundays by the pool, “to have a little fun” as he would say. His family was his greatest joy, and he embraced every moment with them.

elevated kLM6N Born on June 23, 1924 in his beloved Bisaccia, Avellino, Italy, Tony was the son of Maria Michela (nee Frascione) and Vincenzo Gervasio. He often spoke fondly of his humble beginnings – days spent helping his family cultivate abundant fruits and vegetables on their land, affectionately referred to as “lu varc”. At age 17 he was drafted into the Italian army and spent three defining years serving in the Second World War. He often recounted the unforgettable day he returned home, on foot, walking into the town piazza as family and friends gathered to welcome him, and the moment his mother fell to her knees in overwhelming joy at the sight of her son.

elevated kLM6N With courage and conviction, Tony left his hometown of Bisaccia, his parents and sisters, Carmelina and Elisabetta, and immigrated to Canada in the early 50’s. Sponsored by his uncle and aunt, John and Josephine Gervasio, to begin a new life in the land of opportunity.

elevated kLM6N Starting a job with little more than hope and determination, his Canadian life began in Hamilton Ontario, and soon after was joined by his wife Lucy.  A promising opportunity brought Tony, Lucy and their young daughter Mary to Toronto, where he began his nearly 40-year career with Consumers Glass. Through a resoundingly strong work ethic, integrity and a natural gift for people and leadership, he rose to become a senior leader and technical expert in the glass manufacturing industry. The Company offered him the chance to advance his education, refine his skills and form lifelong friendships which he continued to nurture into his retirement years. He took great pride in buying a home just minutes from his workplace, so he could always be there quickly for his family if needed.

elevated kLM6N Tony’s hands were rarely still. He was a gifted handyman who could fix anything, an avid gardener whose fig trees and tomatoes were legendary.  He found deep peace in cultivating the soil of his vegetable garden and was energized by defending his figs and outsmarting the squirrels. He never refused an espresso and started each day reading every page of the newspaper, clipping out articles for his children to educate them on current events. He was proudly Italian and an equally proud Canadian. Tony was a dedicated parishioner of Holy Angels Catholic Church, a role model who embodied generosity, humility, selflessness and boundless love.

elevated kLM6N Tony will be remembered for his strength, his compassion, his quiet wisdom and the example he set through a lifetime of hard work, devotion and respect for others. He was an optimist who taught us to believe that “anything is possible”. His legacy lives on in the family he adored, the values he instilled and the countless lives touched by his kindness.

elevated kLM6N He was our Hero.

elevated kLM6N We are deeply grateful and extend heartfelt thanks to Matilde and her family, Dr. T. Sosiak, Heather, Jackie, Nicole and Bev for the many years of devoted and excellent care. The family also wishes to express sincere gratitude to Dr. Rachel Wortzman and the team at Dorothy Ley Hospice along with visiting nurses, whose kindness and attentive care brought comfort and dignity during Tony’s final weeks and days of his precious life.
