elevated 6ZHAv Obituary
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of John at the age of 88, peacefully and surrounded by the love of his family.
elevated 6ZHAv Beloved husband of Yolanda (née LePera) for 63 wonderful years. Adored father to Sheila (Frank) and Richard (Norma). Cherished Nonno to Nicholas (Caroline), Daniella (Stefano), Christian, Sierra, and Noah, and Bisnonno to Sabrina. He was also the brother of the late Amedeo (Virginia), Paolo, Maria (the late Remo), and Tarquinio (Anna). He leaves behind brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, many nieces and nephews, grand nieces and nephews, and relatives both here and in Italy.
elevated 6ZHAv John was born in Ofena, Abruzzo, Italy, to Antonio and Angiolina (née Palmieri) and came to Canada at the young age of 17 in August, 1954. He worked hard, married in 1962 and started his family. For many years he was healthy and active, walking each day at Yorkdale, making drawings, building furniture and tinkering in the shed. However, his true passion was cooking; he was always inviting family and friends to eat, happiest when his table was full.
elevated 6ZHAv His illness was sudden and his passing too soon but we are grateful for the care and respect he received at North York General Hospital these past 10 weeks. There are so many nurses and doctors who cared for him in many wards, each one thoughtful and mindful of his feelings and compassionate towards his needs. Our family would like to extend our thanks to all of them, especially Dr. J. Chin, his family doctor, who became more than a doctor, but a friend.
elevated 6ZHAv John will be fondly remembered by all who knew him, for his kindness, his guidance, his strong spirit, his daily and weekly phone calls, his smile and his wonderful sense of humour. But most dear to him was his pure joy in becoming a great-grandfather and his unwavering and steadfast love he had for his family, especially his grandchildren – they were his life.
elevated 6ZHAv In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or the Canadian Cancer Society would be sincerely appreciated.

May the beautiful memories of your loved one fill your heart and help you find peace. Sending you love and support.
So so sorry for your loss wishing you all a long life

Our deepest condolences to Yolanda, Sheila, Ritchie and your families.
We fondly cherished the times we had with John who was always warm and good natured – always happy to share humour and a good song – we’ll not forget Stefano and Daniella’s engagement party where he joyfully sang a favourite song for us. In the few years that we got to know him we were so impressed with all that he accomplished. He was so proud to show us the beautiful home he built and he shared his entrepreneurial and engineering accomplishments. Most importantly, it was clear to us that the family he created with Yolanda was what was most dear and precious to him. We are sure John’s legacy will live on through his grandchildren (and now the next generation).
Rest in peace John. 🙏🏻

Dear John,
With deep sorrow, I learned of your peaceful passing. A piece of my heart has become a star in the sky. I want to thank you for all the loving memories we’ve shared over the past thirty-plus years. You have been one of my life’s role models—an amazing and loving friend to Ray and me, and a devoted grandfather to Miranda and Nikki.
I always called you my Italian godfather when I spoke of your kindness and the delicious Italian meals you lovingly prepared for us over the years. Even after we moved to Shanghai and later to Vienna, you never stopped keeping in touch. I cherished your phone calls—they were always filled with warmth and joy.
One of my favourite memories is the beautiful 30th anniversary celebration you and Yolanda organized for Ray and me in your glorious backyard, surrounded by your loving family. You were there for me in both joyful and sorrowful times, especially during the most difficult period when I lost Ray. Your support meant the world to me.
I love you dearly and miss you more than words can express.
With all my love,
Julia, Miranda, Nikki and Kevin (as well as Ray)
On behalf of our family, we wanted to extend our heartfelt condolences. John’s friendship meant a great deal to our Dad — those weekly calls always brought a smile to his face.
Hugs and prayers to Yolanda and family.

Dear Yolanda, Richard, Sheila and family, We were so very sorry to hear about John’s passing. I always enjoyed his phone calls and support for so many years. It meant so much to me just having that contact which had started with my John. Oh the ideas they had of things they could build!
In every conversation I had with John he always shared stories about his dear grandchildren and all their accomplishment. How proud he was. Most importantly Yolanda, John’s teasing of you was a display of the love you shared for so many years together.
Our loved ones never truly leave us…they live in our hearts forever.
With sincerest sympathy
Elaine and Andrew Schenk
We will miss you Nonno
You always brought so much joy to those around you.
You embraced us, made us feel happy with your humor, and loved with your warmth. Unfortunately we could not find the cento erbe bottle for you, but you always provided it for us.
We love you
