elevated 4yKk2 It is with deep sorrow and a huge void left in our lives that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Margo Callahan at the age of 98.  She is gone now but will be remembered always by the 8 of us:

elevated 4yKk2 Michael (Paula), Bill (Margaret), Helen (Ron), Margie (John), Megan (Hugo), Kelly, Stephanie (Brian), Matthew (Kate), 17 grandchildren, and 26 great grandchildren.

elevated 4yKk2 Margo grew up in the Beaches neighbourhood of Toronto in a loving family.  She remembered fondly that her father, Max, had a cabin cruiser and they would cruise the shores of Lake Ontario on Sundays.  WWII was a time of great loss for Mom when her brother, Bill, was killed at sea while escorting naval ships across the Atlantic and her father died as well, leaving Margo and her beloved mother Helen alone.  They were a family of two now and it created a strong bond for the rest of their lives.  Mom did her high school education at Loretto Abbey, where she met many of her life long friends.

elevated 4yKk2 The post-war years did bring great happiness when Margo met Michael Callahan upon his return from serving as a pilot in the Royal Canadian Air Force.  They met at a welcome home party at the Granite Club on St. Clair Avenue and married down the road at Our Lady of Perpetual Help church in 1947.  

elevated 4yKk2 A large family ensued and Margo became a wonderful mother, totally devoted to raising her children.  Her life was about family, but she found time, which was mostly at night in those young family years, to sew and knit beautiful clothes, sweaters and blankets.  She painted for a time, played piano, was a keen skier and was always a great reader of novels.  She was very accomplished at crossword puzzles which she did everyday and scrabble at which she sometimes achieved a score of 300.  Delicious Sunday night dinners were a time to gather in her loving, kind and generous arms.  As Bill always says, Mom taught us that family is the most important thing in our lives.  She modelled that belief everyday.

elevated 4yKk2 In mid-life Mom travelled in Ireland with her mother, to France and England with Dad, Michael, Helen and Margie, Western Canada and the Bahamas to visit family, and a grand trip to Egypt with Matthew where she rode a camel on her 70th birthday.   

elevated 4yKk2 The rest of us are deeply, deeply grateful to Megan, Kelly and Stephanie who lovingly cared for Mom in her final weeks and days at the cottage.  There was fun in going for ice cream cones and joy in watching the life of the lake all within the circle of love created by her daughters. 

elevated 4yKk2 We have comfort in knowing Mom is with Dad who passed away in 2008.  We carry her inside us now as she once carried us.
