elevated MYVnG Obituary

elevated MYVnG With deep sadness and heartache, we share with you that Annie Leung passed away on November 17th, 2021 at the age of 61. After fighting a heroic and brave battle with cancer for over 1 year, Annie experienced declining health in the last 2 months and passed away surrounded by her loving family.

elevated MYVnG Born in Hong Kong on July 11th, 1960, Annie had a passion to help others and graduated with a Bachelors in Social Work. In the 1990s, Annie immigrated to Canada and married her husband, Peter Shieu in 1999. Annie was a leader in the community and worked tirelessly to improve the lives of those with developmental disabilities. In 1996, she established Under the Banyan Tree Inc., a non-profit organization serving individuals with developmental disabilities.

elevated MYVnG In 2010, she selflessly dedicated her whole life, leaving just a few dollars left in her pocket, in order to establish Cherish Integrated Services. With her love and dedication, Cherish became a second home to over 100 individuals with developmental disabilities of all ages. It is a place where trainees can build their skills, receive support and encouragement, and find a sense of belonging in the community. She formed deep connections with each trainee, often making jokes with them, bringing treats for them, and bringing them to field trips and community events.

elevated MYVnG Towards the end of her career, she visioned for a new centre for Cherish and worked persistently to make her dream a reality. To this day, Cherish continues to grow and looks forward to making Annie’s wish come true as they move to their new centre in the coming months. Cherish promises to continue Annie’s legacy and keep her mission in serving our community with excellence and passion.

elevated MYVnG We will never forget Annie’s persistence, dedication, courage, and loving heart that has touched so many community members and made Cherish the outstanding organization that it is today. She will be greatly missed and forever in our hearts.

elevated MYVnG In remembrance of Annie’s life, the family asks that in lieu of flowers, please make memorial tributes in the form of a donation to Cherish Integrated Services (Credit/Debit or E-transfer/Cheque). We appreciate it if you can provide your full name, address, email and telephone in the message for donation receipt purposes.
