elevated RBRp4 Born in Toronto. August 24, 1929,  and lived in Richmond Hill until 10 years old. Betty lived most of her life in North York (Toronto). Beloved mother of 4 children, grandmother of 8, Great grandmother of 10.  Betty was a proud Housewife, active in Community Associations.

elevated RBRp4 Columnist for the Mirror newspaper for Don Valley Village and Henry Farm.

elevated RBRp4 She was elected to North York Council, Ward14, December 1972. Betty and Husband Bill were the first husband and wife to serve on North York and Metro Toronto Council’s together. Betty introduced the first motion in Canada to ban smoking in supermarkets and was instrumental in having the DVP extended to Newmarket. She introduced serviced “garden plots” on Hydro corridors

elevated RBRp4 As Chair of the Metro Parks Committee Betty initiated the walking and biking trail program in Metro(Toronto ) valley lands. The Betty Sutherland Trail at Don Mills and Sheppard area was named after her for this accomplishment. Betty retired with her husband in 1985 to their cottage and home in Florida. 

elevated RBRp4 She follows husband after Bill who passed away in 1998, shortly after their 50th wedding anniversary.
