João Furtado Soares, July 8, 1927 – May 13, 2025. Survived by his children, José (Maria), Antonio (Rita), and John (Judite); his grandchildren, Sonia (Ben), Filipe (Maria), Diane, Christine (Justin), Emily, and Evan; and his great-grandchildren Cassandra, Hudson, Madeline, and Jason. He is predeceased by his wife, Lidia. 
 

João enjoyed a long, happy life. Born in Achada, São Miguel, Açores, he immigrated to Canada in 1971, followed shortly thereafter by his family in 1974. He enjoyed gardening and could almost always be found in the backyard tending to his vegetables on sunny days. In his later years, he spent his days surrounded by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whom he loved dearly. He will be remembered for his dedication to family and immense faith. 
 

Funeral services will be held on Saturday May 17, 2025, at Assumption Cemetery. There will be a viewing held from 9-11 AM, followed by a short service, interment, and reception. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to your charity or cause of choice.
