elevated ammq2 On June 14th, 2025, God peacefully called George Alexander Smyth at the age of 88. Known to most as “Alex”, to his wife as “Alec”, and to his grand and great-grandchildren as “Nanu”, he will be forever missed by those who were lucky enough to know and love him. He will be remembered and cherished by his loving wife, Phyllis, his daughter, Carol (John), his son, David (Filomena), his grandchildren Christopher (Lisa), Alexa, Matthew and Nicole, his great-grandchildren Samuel, Charlie and Noa, and his brother, Trevor (Lynette). He joins in heaven his brothers, Graham and Ivan.
elevated ammq2 Born in Carlisle, England, to Irish parents, Alex was a man of fierce independence, drive and intelligence. Initially accepted into medical school, he opted instead to travel to Canada to build a new life. A man of many skills and talents, he went from working the mines in Flin Flon, Manitoba, to working as a Purchaser for agricultural machinery manufacturer, Massey Ferguson, in Toronto. With his great business acumen, he later left Massey Ferguson and began his own successful landscaping business, afterwards becoming a commercial property builder and owner.
elevated ammq2 Indeed, as a man, Alex was strong, a provider, and a protector. As a cherished friend, he was a witty and willing companion; but most of all, as a husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, he was everything: the sage advisor, the helping hand, the storyteller when you gathered around the table. He was the foundation on which his family – his legacy – was built, and whose memory will forever live on in them and through them.
elevated ammq2 If desired and in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Salvation Army in memory of George Alexander Smyth.
