Zulmira Carreiro passed away peacefully on Tuesday September 2nd, 2025, just weeks before her 90th birthday. Born in São Miguel, Azores on October 13th, 1935.
elevated WKVL4 Zulmira was an incredibly generous, spiritual and compassionate woman. She dedicated her life to loving and caring for her family including her children Valentina (Joe), John (Natalie), Grace (Dimas), Silvino (Maria), and Suzette (Steve); grandchildren Michelle, Jenny, Mike, Christine, Stephanie, Celine, Alex, and Adrianna; and great-grandchildren Austin, Brayden, Dorian, Dahlia, Chiara, Vinny, and Catalina who always brought her so much joy and laughter.
elevated WKVL4 For their care and compassion, we are truly grateful for the community of PSWs, nurses, and doctors who looked after Zulmira at Holland Christian Homes in her final days.
elevated WKVL4 In her memory, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren will continue to recite the Guardian Angel prayer she lovingly taught them; Anjo da Guarda, minha companhia. Guardai a minha alma, de noite e de dia.
elevated WKVL4 Although we will miss her love and support, we are comforted knowing that she is at peace in heaven with her husband Silvino Carreiro and beloved daughter Valentina Cabral. As we say goodbye to the matriarch of our family, we know she is looking over us and will forever remain in our hearts.

Zulmira was a beautiful, wise and dignified person, worthy of respect – a truly special lady who left a lasting mark on me. It was an honour to have met her.

A better mother I could not ask for. A harder worker I’ve never encountered. She gave freely of her time, energy and all her resources. She was so loving and rained adoration upon her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She received from them the same as she taught by example. Even provided daycare to a couple neighbour kids. She was a master massa maker and talented florist. Full of integrity and dignity.
