It is with deep sadness and much love that we announce the passing of Dr. Rodolfo “Rudy” Borromeo in Toronto, Canada, surrounded by the love of his family and those who compassionately cared for him.

elevated XO0Mo Rudy was born in Ormoc City, Leyte, Philippines the youngest of six children to the late Juan and Rosula Borromeo.  He is survived by his beloved wife, Myrna, with whom he shared 62 wonderful years of marriage; his loving son, Eric (Jane); and his cherished grandson, Justin.

elevated XO0Mo Rudy was predeceased by his sisters, Paulina, Teresita, Virginia, Lourdes, and Catalina.  He will be dearly missed by his many nieces and nephews in Canada and the Philippines.

elevated XO0Mo Rudy graduated from Far Eastern University medical school in Manila in 1961 before immigrating to the United States.  In 1966, he moved to Canada, where he served as a Chief Resident in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Ottawa General Hospital.  After completing his training in 1967, he pursued a Diploma in Anaesthesia at McGill University in Montreal.  In 1971, he earned his Fellowship and certification in Anaesthesia (FRCP(c)) and began his practice at the Grace General Hospital in Ottawa.  He later continued his distinguished career at The Ottawa Hospital, Riverside Campus where he worked until 2008 dedicating his life to caring for others, earning the deep respect and gratitude of colleagues and patients alike.

elevated XO0Mo Rudy will be remembered for his deep devotion to family and friends and for the many lives he touched through his professional work and personal generosity.  He helped countless people, giving generously of his time and remarkable range of talents, from supporting others in immigrating to Canada to teaching tennis, repairing cars, and handling home electrical, plumbing and carpentry projects.  He also had a gift for design and even created practical tools and devices for use in hospital operating rooms as well as for friends and family.

elevated XO0Mo Family and friends are invited to gather for visitation at Holy Cross Catholic Funeral Home on Saturday, May 9 from 1:00 p.m. to 2:45 p.m.  Following the visitation, a Funeral Mass will be celebrated at the funeral home’s Chapel of St. Joseph from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and a dinner reception will follow from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.  Those wishing to attend the reception are kindly requested to register by emailing rudybor2026@gmail.com   

elevated XO0Mo If desired, memorial donations may be directed to the North York General Hospital’s acute geriatrics general medicine unit or the Alzheimer Society.  The family is grateful for all expressions of sympathy, though no donation is necessary. 

elevated XO0Mo May God grant him eternal rest, and may perpetual light shine upon him.  May his soul rest in peace.
