elevated zK7BH Sue Banwell (nee Suzana Begey) passed away peacefully on July 22, 2026 in her 96th year, surrounded by family.
elevated zK7BH Sue was predeceased by her devoted husband of 63 years, Frank, her sisters Olga (“Ollie”) & Mary, and her parents Mykola & Mariia Begey.
elevated zK7BH Sue and Frank proudly raised their family on Lankin Blvd in East York and were devout members of Holy Name Parish on Danforth Avenue.
elevated zK7BH Sue is survived by her four sons: Fred (Franca), Peter (Joanne), Tony (Caroline) and Michael (Carol). Sue was blessed with 13 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
elevated zK7BH Throughout her life, Sue made the most of her summers up at Chandos Lake, took exciting trips around the world with Frank, practiced a generous and Christian way of life, and lovingly served countless homemade meals fueled by the smiles and laughter of family and friends.
elevated zK7BH You are invited to celebrate Sue’s life with her family, Thursday, July 30.
elevated zK7BH Funeral Mass will begin at Noon at Holy Cross Catholic Funeral Home, 211 Langstaff Rd., Thornhill.
elevated zK7BH In lieu of flowers, donations to Saints Peter and Paul Residence would be appreciated as Sue’s final year was spent in their caring hands.
There isn’t another lady in the world that could come as close to being a “Mom” to me than Sue. I could always count on getting sound advice and the occasional scolding if I ever needed it. I always enjoyed being included as part of the “Banwell” clan and I will miss her dearly. All you boys are so lucky to have been able to call her “Mom” and I will always remember her as the Mom that I never had. May God bless you Mrs. B and rest easy. Your watch is over and we’ll take it from here.

We all need to face that day, the day we go back to our Heavenly Father. Sue has never left you all. It’s just her time to be in a better place and she will continue to watch over you and love you every day from above. When I was younger I never really knew what “Rest in Peace” meant except what it literally meant but as my walk with Jesus continues everyday now I know. There is only one place we could every be in where we could finally find peace thats when we finally are with God in Heaven. Everything is pure there. There is no more worry, no more burden, no more pain, no more stress! Nothing matters anymore and there is only eternal peace and love. Sue is Home now with Frank.

Sue was a beautiful person who lived her Catholic faith each day.
I had many interesting conversations with her at Holy Name Church. May she rest in God’s loving arms.
Sue: Thank you for your friendship and your example as a true Christian. The sharing of your faith stories in the small faith group encouraged us to learn to work harder surrendering to God’s will. Your volunteering in the Palliative Care Unit of the former Riverdale Hospital was love in action. Although we never got to pair up in the visits, I learned from you to embrace all those who needed comfort and support most in the last leg of their life journey. Now that your role on Earth is completed, may you rest in the peace and love in the Kingdom of God!
I have been assisting sue in her dietary care for over a year and I must say she has had such a positive impact on me & many work colleagues lives; her observation & empathy really touched us. All We wanted to do is make her happy and comfortable but she would reciprocate. she loved looking outside and observing sunsets & nature her spirit & care for the simple things makes us think of how delicate life is. She was a trooper to the end. Knowing her for just a year I can only imagine what a positive impact Sue had on many lives she was a very gentle special lady with very inspiring conversions, Thank you sue it was an honor knowing you & much blessings to family & friend of such a beautiful lady.
Sue was a wonderful person who brought so much kindness to the world. She will be deeply missed by everyone who knew her. My thoughts and prayers are with her family during this difficult time. May her soul rest in peace
Sue & Frank were the essence of Lankin Blvd – always welcoming, and interested in everything and everyone. Excited for when new families arrived & so welcoming. Truly, they were the perfect representatives of a gentle and caring generation, who saw the fun in things and always thought of others. They did not mind if the parties on the street were a bit late or a bit loud! They would be smiling the next day out front, and inquiring if everyone had fun. Or wanting to know what you were reading, what the kids were up to and asking you to sit down out front for a visit & a cup of tea or a glass of wine. Generous, kind and always smiling – we missed your Dad when we lost him, we missed your mom when she moved – and we think of the entire family,now with this loss, but hope that you can take comfort in knowing that they will both be looking down and still smiling and interested in what you all are up to. Our thoughts are with you.
