elevated 5ngGG It is with profound sadness and deep gratitude for a life well lived that we announce the passing of Barbara Jeanne Man-Son-Hing (née Lopes) on Monday, August 3, 2026, at the age of 83.
Barbara completed her earthly journey surrounded by the love of family and sustained by the faith that guided her throughout her life. Those who had the privilege of knowing and loving her give thanks for the many blessings she shared with us.
Born in Guyana, Barbara was a devoted wife, loving mother, cherished grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She leaves behind her beloved husband Anthony (Tony) and her sons Anthony Jr., Paul (Jack Keslasey) and Peter (predeceased) (Lisa Shoebridge) and her precious granddaughter Ayla, who brought immeasurable joy and pride to her life.
Barbara is survived by her siblings Carol Chung, Joseph Lopes (Mariantoinetta), John Lopes (Sharon), and Alice Lopes, and is reunited with her brother Francis Lopes Jr., who predeceased her. She will also be fondly remembered by her in-laws Margaret Levy, Michael Manson-Hing (Maureeen), Ian Smith (Carol, predeceased), Patrick Mansonhing (Paula) and Donna Carignan (Eugene) as well as her many nieces and nephews whose lives were enriched by her warmth, guidance, and affection.
Friends and family are invited to gather at Assumption Catholic Funeral Home, 6933 Tomken Road, Mississauga, Ontario, on Sunday, August 9, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Anthony of Padua Parish, 940 North Park Drive, Bramalea, Ontario, on Monday, August 10, 2026, at 11:00 a.m.
Interment will follow at Assumption Catholic Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Anthony of Padua parish, Princess Margaret Hospital, the Canadian Diabetes Association or the charity of your choice in Barbara’s memory.
We give thanks to God for Barbara’s life and entrust her to His loving care.

Barbara Jeanne was not only Sandra’s Form mate and close friend since the 1950s, the Lopes family were our neighbors on the same block in Queenstown, Guyana for many years.
Our friendship was cemented at
St Rose’s High School, the Roman Catholic Church and mutual interests. Later Alice and Marlyn became Form mates and
we both benefited from their mother Mrs Vera Lopes’ incomparable dedication to the Ursuline Convent.
Throughout the years since, there has been continuity in our relationship through Carol and Alice.
We share your grief and ask God to give you courage and strength at this time.

I met Barb (Barbara) at work (EGH) and was immediately drawn to her. Her honesty, whether you liked it or not, was immeasurable. She loved with a passion. She was loyal to a fault. We were surprised that we lived across from each other!
My children called her Aunty Barb. To my youngest she was the muffin Aunty! We had a close relationship.
Barb you were one in a million. You will be missed.

Tony and family. I’m so saddened by the loss of Barbara. I do not have enough words to express what a wonderful. Caring, loving woman she was. I met Barbara. I guess when I was 17 or 18. Years old. She give me my first haircut. We became very close when we moved to the states. Even though we lived far apart, through My husband Roland, and Tony being best friends, we saw each other often and became close friends. I thank God she was well enough to come down to Florida February of this year 2026. And let me tell you, she looked fantastic. I coud not stop telling her that.
Barb, my friend, rest in peace now, your husband did a fantastic job taking care of you. You will never be forgotten.
So many fond memories of the ‘Guyanese connection’, Barbara’s ever warm smile and optimism. She will be in the hearts of her Trini cousins and in all our prayers.

Barbara and I have been friends since kindergarten and continued that friendship through the years even though we have been far apart. For some part of my teenage years we spent even some holidays together and you could even see us at Fatima church for morning mass during the week.
Time and countries drew us apart but we never forgot the closeness we had shared during our growing up years. She is a friend you could depend on and truly love.
Rest in peace, you have done the best with the gifts God gave you and been a champ throughout.
I had the privilege of knowing and loving Sylvia for many decades. She was the first person in the Norsworthy family that Doug introduced me to and I, together with my mother and siblings, warmed to her instantly. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
I am so thankful that we had her stay with us in Barbados for 2 months last year and will always treasure those beautiful and happy memories. Sylvia was a kind and loving person with an infectious laugh that lit up her face. She was loyal to a fault and it was a joy to witness the love and easy affinity that she and Doug had for each other. They both lit up on sight of each other and the ease showed how comfortable they were with each other – almost as if they were twins.
Sylvia is gone but will never be forgotten. May she rest peacefully until we meet again.
