elevated LBXnU It is with sadness and a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Harold “King” Tom on August 24, 2026. He was 77. He was predeceased by his mother (Kim), father (Tom) and sister (Patricia). He was a loving husband to Carolyn for 45 years, devoted father to Nicole and Kathryn, and doting grandfather to Sophie, Matthew, and Ava. He will be dearly missed by his siblings: Errol (Ines), Annette, and Virginia. He will be lovingly remembered by his nieces and nephews: Jonathan, Samantha, Laura, Jackson, and Aidan.
elevated LBXnU Harold grew up as “King “. King was born in China, where he spent his early childhood with Ma and Apoh. During the day while they worked on the farm, he played. They would then return home at night to start the fire for dinner. He remembered this simple life where he developed a love of nature. He was especially close to Ma. As a young boy, he and Ma immigrated to Trinidad where Pa was preparing for their arrival. Those were hard days for the family. He was a quiet and observant little guy. He pitched in to help raise his four siblings.
elevated LBXnU At the tender age of 16, he immigrated to Toronto by himself. He, like many of us Trinis, worked at Center Island during summer break. Here, he excelled and became a manager. He later went on to graduate from Carleton University with a B.A. Eventually he managed a successful career with Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) where he was an Auditor. He was very proud of his accomplishment with the CRA and the life it afforded.
elevated LBXnU During this time, King met Carolyn Chung. They were married on August 22, 1981. They grew to be a family of four with the addition of their cherished daughters Nicole and Kathryn. They were his pride and joy.
elevated LBXnU Wherever King went he made friends easily. Some turned out to be lifelong friends from Center Island, CRA, and various other Caribbean associations. He was a kind and gentle man. His wit and, sometimes incomprehensible, jokes will be greatly missed.
elevated LBXnU King has left behind a crowd of loved ones. Enjoy your time with Ma, Pa, and Pat. Know the rest of us will be joining you, just not quite yet!
