Obituary
It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Lucia Bazzana (Richmond Hill, Ontario) on September 13th, 2026, at the age of 89. She will be lovingly remembered by her children Tom (Suzy) and Sandra (Julio), and her adoring grandchildren Nicholas (Stefania), Ryan (Catherine), Julia, Sarah, and Adam (Gabriela), and her brother Tony. She has now been reunited with her daughter Silvia, her late husband Tarcisio, her sister Antonietta and brother Mario.
Lucia was born in San Martino, Italy in 1937 and immigrated to Canada with her family in 1952. She endured many challenges throughout her life, yet she dedicated herself to caring for others, leaving behind a legacy of love, kindness, and selflessness. She spent decades as a sole caretaker to her daughter Silvia, ensuring she was safe, comfortable, and well cared for with a love that never wavered, while also being a steadfast and nurturing parent to Tom and Sandra. She was a woman of immense strength and compassion who gave so much of herself to those she cared for.
Anyone who knew Lucia knew that her door was always open and no invitation was ever needed. Her home was a place where all were welcome, and there was always time for a cup of her famous coffee, a conversation, and a little laughter. She was also an avid reader and took great joy in tending to her garden and watching her colourful flowers bloom.
She was a fantastic cook and baker, spending hours in the kitchen making her family all of their favourites anytime they came over for a visit and always sending them home with leftovers. Her grandchildren always looked forward to sleepovers at Nonna’s house, and she handled the chaos of all five kids under one roof with the patience of a saint and the authority of a seasoned general. She was a very proud mother and grandmother, finding happiness in the accomplishments of her family and being supportive of every endeavor.
She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing and loving her.
