elevated QNCZf In Loving Memory of Erminio Neglia July 11, 1933 – October 9, 2025
elevated QNCZf God called Erminio Giuseppe Neglia on October 9, 2025 at the age of 92. He passed peacefully at Credit Valley Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.
elevated QNCZf Born in Triggiano, Italy, on July 11, 1933, to the late Angela and Pasquale Neglia, Erminio lived a life marked by passion, intellect, and deep devotion to his family.
elevated QNCZf He is survived and dearly missed by his wife of 61 years Ligia; his children, Pasquale (Judith), Germán (Maureen), Angela (George) and José (Jessica); adored grandchildren, Jacquelyn (David), Michael (Anja), Brendan, Katelyn, Alessandro, Tatiana, Marilena, Vicente, Vienna; his beloved great grandchildren, Ava, Asher, Theo; and his siblings, Giuditta and Gianni.
elevated QNCZf Erminio met the love of his life, Ligia, in Colombia in the early 1960s, and their bond became a beautiful partnership filled with music, food, travel, and unwavering support. In 1969, they immigrated to Canada, where they built a loving home and a vibrant life together. A dedicated scholar, Erminio was a respected Professor in the Department of Spanish & Portuguese at the University of Toronto, where he taught Spanish and Latin American literature for over 25 years. He was deeply proud of his heritage and shared his love for language, culture, and storytelling with students and colleagues alike. In his youth, he was a talented soccer player and was great at playing Italian card games. Among his greatest joys was becoming a “Nonno” (grandfather). He lit up every room with his warm toasts, generous heart, and spirited personality. His talents were many — from crafting heartfelt poems and short stories to writing plays — but above all, it was his love for his family that defined him. He believed that family was everything, and his happiest moments were spent surrounded by those he loved.
elevated QNCZf In keeping with his wishes, and in lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made to the Canadian Cancer Society in his memory.

Zio, ci siamo voluti tanto tanto bene.

Neglia Family, Oh how we loved meeting all of you during our Canada visit in celebration of Erminio’s 90th birthday. We will long remember your kindness and hospitality. Our hearts go out to all of you.
With deepest condolences to all the Neglia family & especially Germàn & Maureen, and our beloved David & Jacquelyn, Ava & Asher. Nonno knew family was a gift from God. Blessings on his journey from this life into the next.
My deepest condolences to the Neglia family at this very sad time. Erminio was such a wonderful man who knew the importance of family and hospitality. What a legacy he has left behind. May he rest in peace.
As part of the maternal cousins who lived closest to our beloved Neglia’s, we have so many memories of childhood, adolescence and adulthood family vacations, trips and adventures!
Erminio was a big part of those memories. We treasure the time we were able to spend with all of you.
We will always remember his warmth, hospitality, great stories and the smell of his pipes.
Rest in peace, querido tío.
Via siamo vicini.
Marco e Paola
