elevated QZe9T Obituary
elevated QZe9T Loving husband for 62 years to his late Hedwig, and devoted father to Peter, Caroline, and Andrew; father-in-law to Sharon, Robert, and Manuela; grandfather to Kirsten, Ess, Claire, Christina, Samantha, Erin, Sean, Gabrielle, and Madeline; and great-grandfather to Michelle and Eleanor. He is survived by his twin brother and sister, Sylvester and Maria. He will be dearly missed.
elevated QZe9T George had a wonderful and full life. He was known for treating others with fairness and respect, working hard without complaint, and giving generously to his community.
elevated QZe9T George was born in Abersee, Austria, in Hobler house (the family homestead) on 11 September 1932. The eldest of seven children, his childhood was spent in the mountains and forests of the Salzkammergut. He immigrated to Canada in 1957 as a young carpenter in search of better work opportunities to support his mother and siblings in Austria. He was reading the newspaper at the kitchen table of his Toronto rooming house when the love of his life walked through the door, fresh off a plane from Germany to begin her own new life in Canada.
elevated QZe9T George and Hedwig were devoted members of St. Patrick’s Parish and the Kolping Society in downtown Toronto. George oversaw several major renovation projects for St Patrick’s, helping to preserve the parish’s beautiful buildings for future generations.
elevated QZe9T George and Hedwig spent thirty summers sailing the PEANCA on Lake Simcoe and Georgian Bay with family and friends, fulfilling George’s childhood dream of owning his own sailboat. In retirement, he and Hedwig traded the sailboat for an RV and set out on the open road, spending months each year exploring the vast beauty of North America.
elevated QZe9T In the last years of his life, the details of the people and places he loved slowly blurred as dementia took hold. Yet, his soul remained true and consistent with the man he had always been. His kindness, patience, and charisma shone through to the very end; as did his habit of never turning down a slice of chocolate cake, or the chance to get up and dance (usually to some traditional Austrian folk music).
elevated QZe9T George passed away peacefully on Thursday July 24th, 2025 with family at his side.
elevated QZe9T George’s family would like to extend their sincerest thanks and gratitude to the staff of Sheppard Village LTC who cared so lovingly for him over these past few years and had such a positive impact on his quality of life.

The Foch Family extends their deepest sympathies on the passing of George Hoedlmoser.
We will forever cherish the fond memories shared at St. Patrick’s Church and the German Swimming Pool.
May he rest in eternal peace.
It was a pleasure caring for George, always smiling as he looked at you with those baby blues that seemed to be passed on to his children. We will miss George and seeing his beautiful family coming to visit him. May he rest in peace.
It was always a pleasure to spend some time with George and Hedwig. Their faith was strong and always trusting in divine providence. George’s gentleness, good humour, and gift of self to others was wonderful to behold. The zest for life and the appreciation of God’s gifts of beauty, family, talents, and friends was inspirational.
May George & Hedwig rest together in peace and new life.
Fr. Mark Miller, C.Ss.R.
My heartfelt Sympathy to the Hoedlmoser Family.
I remember George and Hedwig best from the yearly St. Patricks Mission Basar. Always there to organize and help to make it a great success.
May George and Hedwig rest in peace together at the special place that the Lord has prepared for them.

We have just been informed of the passing of our dear Friend George. He was one of a kind and we knew him and his wife Hedwig for over 50 years. We shared great times at St. Patrick’s, at our Cottage, on his Sail Boat and at our home. Now, he is together again with his wife Hedwig and our Lord will bless him for the great deeds he did in his life.
May he now rest in peace.
Erika and Werner Scheliga.
My deepest sympathy and condolences to the Hoedlmoser family. I will forever cherish the fond memories we had at the German Pool and endless family gatherings both in Richmond Hill and Toronto. George was the most kindest, humble man filled with deep compassion and a witty sense of humour. Ruhe in Frieden.
