Obituary
elevated tLKog It’s with great sadness that we announce the passing of Joaquina Pereira Carvalho, who was a caring mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. She left this world peacefully on March 8, 2023, at the age of 107.
elevated tLKog Joaquina was born as a twin on March 3rd, 1916, in Melgaco, Portugal. She was the sole survivor of a multiple birth, losing her twin and mother. She married at the age of 21 to Manuel de Jesus Carvalho (deceased) and had 11 children. She endured tragedies in her life with the loss of 3 daughters (Maria, Hortelinda and Judite) as well as one grandchild, Danny Carvalho.
elevated tLKog During Joaquina’s lifetime, she lived and worked in 3 different countries, Portugal, France and then finally settling in Canada. She was a fabulous mother and loved to cook up a storm for anyone who would walk through her door. Our mom believed her family was her world, for her it was her lifeline. She was a very hard-working woman, who survived breast cancer after her diagnosis at age 68. She will be missed by her surviving 8 children: Aurea Fernandes (Antonio) Linda Domingues (Jose), Alice Bustos (Pablo), Fernando Carvalho (Marleen), Alda Marinho (Joaquin), Auguste Carvalho (Myra), Francois Carvalho (Wilma) and Juliette Peacock (Greg). Her 16 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren.
elevated tLKog The family would also like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all staff at Cummer Lodge for their compassionate support and loving care of Joaquina.
elevated tLKog In Lieu of Flowers, the family wishes that you consider donating to Alzheimer Society of Toronto (click here to donate)

Srª Joaquina, or Srª Joquina as I used to call her, was my sweet & loving babysitter. I have such fond memories of her and she was such a good friend to my mother, also from S. Paio, Melgaço. My deepest condolences to the whole family.
Love from Portugal
