Obituary
With heavy hearts, the family of Kang-Ching Cheung announces his peaceful passing in Mississauga on October 25th, 2025 at the age of 95. Kang-Ching was a devoted husband to his wife of 60 years, Jane, a loving father to Alex, Magdalene and Peter (Kristi), and a proud grandfather to Nora and Ivy.
elevated dr6DZ Born in Hong Kong on March 21st, 1930, to Chi-Ying Cheung and King-Fong Leung, Kang-Ching, or K.C. to most, dedicated his life to education. After attending Queen’s College Hong Kong, he went on to Northcote College of Education, where he completed his teacher’s training. He later earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics from the University of London and completed further studies at the University of Hull in the UK.
elevated dr6DZ Throughout his career, K.C. was deeply committed to teaching and mentoring students, many of whom still remember his kindness, patience, and guidance. It was through his career in education where he met the love of his life, Jane Wong, in 1962, when both were working at Yau Ma Tei Government School. Their romance began over a shared love of music – he on his viola and she on the piano. Later on, their joint passion for music led them to ballroom dancing, with the Waltz being K.C.’s favourite step.
elevated dr6DZ Music remained an important part of K.C.’s life. He found joy in classical music and in playing his violin during his spare time. Even after being diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, he continued to take comfort in the familiar melodies he had learned decades earlier.
elevated dr6DZ In 1986, K.C. and Jane immigrated to Canada with their family, settling in Mississauga. At 58, he began a new chapter as a small-business owner, running Domar Printing & Mailing for over 20 years. K.C. never shied away from a new challenge and stayed active and curious well into his later years.
elevated dr6DZ Perseverance has always been one of K.C.’s strengths; he took great pride in completing a mile-long swim across Victoria Harbour in Hong Kong in the 1950’s. At the print shop, he would often work until the early hours of the morning to ensure he’s providing the best service possible for every job.
elevated dr6DZ Outside of work, K.C. enjoyed playing Mahjong with friends and relatives, going to the racetrack, and occasionally testing his luck at the roulette table, where he took great satisfaction in finding his own “system.”
elevated dr6DZ The family would like to express heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Yee Hong Centre for Geriatric Care, who cared for K.C. with compassion and dedication over the past 11 years, keeping him safe through the pandemic and beyond.
elevated dr6DZ In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Alzheimer Society of Canada or to the Yee Hong Community Wellness Foundation in K.C.’s memory.
