It is with great sadness we announce that Klara Basalmasi, nee Der, passed away peacefully at Mon Sheong Long Term Care Centre in Stouffville. Klara was predeceased by Stephen, her loving husband of 76 years. Klara was born on June 27, 1930 in Bekescsaba, Hungary. She married Stephen at the young age of 16 and embarked on a journey full of love and adventure.
elevated QzNrr Stephen and Klara left Budapest, Hungary, in 1950 and arrived in Canada few years later. They made Canada their home and raised five children. Theirs is a story of true love and devotion.
Klara is survived by her five children: Stephen, Claire (Rob), Peter (Patty), Elizabeth (Paul) and John (Lori). She will be deeply missed by her 18 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren.
elevated QzNrr Klara devoted her entire life to her family. She was a loving wife, grandmother and great grandmother who was actively involved in the lives of her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
elevated QzNrr Klara was a lover of the arts, especially classical music. She herself was an accomplished artisan who created many beautiful works in pottery and stained glass. Klara loved to travel, and together with her husband, Stephen, she travelled the world.
elevated QzNrr She was a kind, gentle spirit with a profound love for her husband and the family they raised together. Her family wishes to thank the staff at Mon Sheong Long Term Care Centre in Stouffville for the loving care Klara received these past three years.
Sending you, Liz and Paul, and the entire family our sincerest condolences on the loss of your mother. She and your dad have left an amazing legacy in their close, loving family. May those memories of the times you spent with her, especially in her last years, bring you comfort in your grief.
