elevated WLuMX Obituary
It is with heavy hearts that we share the peaceful passing of Luigi Troian on May 24th, 2025 in his ninety-fifth year. Luigi was a devoted husband of 68 years to Rosa (Tegner) and loving father to Danny, David (Sarah) and Anne (Bryan) and is proud grandfather to Matthew, Benjamin, Sam and Louisa. Luigi lived a full life, centered on his family and friends, and was happiest when surrounded by them. He had a generous spirit and could always be counted on to open his home and provide support to the nieces, nephews and friends who came to visit. He especially loved to watch and support his grandchildren in their many activities, school events, hockey, ballet and piano recitals. He was a faithful man, strong supporter of St. Roch’s Parish and St. Michael’s Cathedral Basilica, especially when his son David and then later his grandson Benjamin were in the choirs while at the Choir School. Luigi was a man of service, quietly supporting his community in many ways, and was proud of his son Danny continuing the legacy with his charitable work. Luigi was born in Belluno, Italy. He was an adventurer, leaving home at an early age travelling across Europe to Switzerland and eventually to emigrate to Canada with his new wife to start a new life. He joked that it was a toss up to either go to Canada or Australia but the boat to Canada left first and he didn’t regret the choice. His love of travel continued throughout his life, returning to Italy and Europe many times to visit family and friends but also holidays down south with family. He was especially fond of the Florida adventures with Anne’s family. Luigi had strong work ethic, he started and built a successful painting contracting company growing it over the years and working with some of the most noteworthy construction companies throughout the Greater Toronto Area, on projects both large and small, residential, institutional and industrial. He was well known for his custom work, humble but quietly proud of the artistic craftsmanship that can be found in many private homes and public spaces, in particular the detail work he contributed to the renovation of the Elgin and Winter Garden Theatre. Luigi was also a devoted sports enthusiast and loved the outdoors. Coming to Canada he learned about hockey and he and Rosa grew to be devoted fans of the Toronto Maple Leafs. Luigi also love car racing, regularly taking his sons and their friends to Mosport years ago, travelling to Montreal for the Indy races and was a devoted “tifosi”, Scuderia Ferrari Formula F1 fan. He enjoyed hiking and fishing, particularly in Italy and Switzerland through the Alps. Luigi will be forever remembered by those who knew and loved him. Although he is gone from our lives, he will be forever in our hearts. May Luigi rest in eternal peace knowing he was deeply loved and will be dearly missed. Luigi’s family would like to give special thanks to his integrated care team at St. Joseph’s Hospital, covering the Medicine 2R in the Our Lady of Mercy Wing, Respirology Department, and the Palliative Care Unit, for their patient centred approach with compassion and dignity. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to St Joseph’s Health Centre in Toronto, Respirology or Medicine Program https://supportstjoes.ca/ .
