elevated NctZX It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Pierino Donato Rossi, on Saturday, May 14, 2022. Beloved husband of Angelina, cherished father of Ernesta (Cyrus) and Daniele, caring Nonno of Kiara and Mateo, and gentle brother of the late Giovanni Rossi (Angelina).
elevated NctZX Pierino was born February 16, 1942 in Castiglione di Carovilli, Italy and emigrated to Toronto, Canada in 1967 at the age of 25 where he built a long and successful career in the construction industry. His work as a site superintendent can be seen across the GTA skyline and everyone knew him as an honest and dedicated expert in his field.
elevated NctZX Pierino turned down invitations to come out of retirement because he loved his vegetable garden, grafting his fruit trees, watching Serie A soccer games and visiting his hometown. And he never came across a Sudoku puzzle he couldn’t solve.
elevated NctZX He never lost his strong ties to his roots, family and friends in Castiglione. In 1982, Pierino founded the Carovillese Social Club in Toronto which created a close community of his fellow emigrants and their children.
elevated NctZX In recent years, Pierino was instrumental in helping Canadians and Americans reunite with their long lost cugini spanning multiple generations. He was always generous with sharing his extensive knowledge of Castiglione with anyone who asked, by authoring several books on the history of his beloved hometown and even leading discovery tours of the region for those interested in connecting with their past.
elevated NctZX Pierino’s family will receive friends at Holy Cross Catholic Funeral Home for visitations on Tuesday, May 17 from 2 pm – 4 pm and 6 pm – 8 pm and a funeral mass at the Chapel of St. Joseph on Wednesday, May 18, 2022, at 10:30 am. The location for both the visitation and the funeral is at 211 Langstaff Road East (Bayview and Langstaff), Thornhill, ON, L3T 3Z6.
