elevated phOWS Obituary
elevated phOWS It is with deep sorrow that we announce the sudden and unexpected passing of Peter Joseph Ostrowski. He died of a heart attack on July 2, 2025, in Brampton, Ontario, shortly after winning a game of pickleball, a sport he loved in his later years. Born in Brampton on May 15, 1950, Peter’s life was rooted in intellectual pursuit, global exploration, and a deep commitment to his family. Peter was one of seven siblings: Henry, John, Mary, Paul, Margaret, and Tom. Peter began his career in the early 1970s with a degree in Chemistry from the University of Toronto. He built on this foundation in the 1980s by earning his Master of Business Administration and Master of Engineering, and transitioned into nuclear safety engineering. In the 2000s, he earned his PhD in Business and Technology and began a new chapter as a business professor, a calling that would take him around the world often with Catalyste+, to Abu Dhabi, Thailand, Russia, Armenia, the Philippines, and beyond. After each journey abroad, he would return with a list of cultural observations which were quirky, wise, and always insightful. Peter always felt most at home in Brampton, where he taught at Algoma University for over a decade. He played pickleball, bridge, and enjoyed cycling, cross-country skiing, and hiking, especially on trails like the Bruce Trail in Ontario, the West Coast Trail in British Columbia, and the West Highland Way in Scotland. He was also a gifted handyman and woodworker, often crafting furniture or helping build decks, and using his engineering skills to outsmart backyard animal intruders. Peter is lovingly remembered by his four children, Nick, Rai, Jan and Simone, all of whom brought him immense pride. He was also the proud grandfather of eight grandchildren, and was looking forward to Simone’s upcoming wedding this summer. Known for his formidable intellect, dry wit, unwavering discipline, and deep humility, Peter leaves behind a legacy of knowledge, adventure, and quiet strength. In keeping with his wishes, a private cremation has taken place. A memorial Mass will be held on August 5th, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Timothy Catholic Church, with a small gathering to follow. In lieu of flowers, we request donations be made to the Bruce Trail Conservancy. Peter will be dearly missed by his family, friends, colleagues, and students across Canada and around the world.

As the one who originally hired Peter and on my personal behalf. I wish to convey my condolences to the family. Peter was a much valued person and course instructor.
I was really sad to see him go. I was his student last semester and he was my favourite. We used to have long conversations about marketing strategies. I am really going to miss you. Rest in peace dear Professor.
I took a course with Dr. Peter in the winter semester. He was so calm and easily one of my favourite professors. I loved being in his class and always sat in the front. He was very polite and had a great sense of humour. He gave us so much knowledge about so many things other than the text book. This is truly very heart breaking and I cannot believe it. I would have had never imagine this would happen so soon. I send love and strength to his family and friends. And I feel very grateful that I got a chance to be his student.❤️🩹🙏🕊️
When I picked up my first Finance course with Algoma University, Peter took the time to meet with me and share his knowledge of how deliver these courses. Our chat quickly turned into an hour long discussion and it was really evident how passionate he was about finance. I’ll be forever grateful for the knowledge he shared, my condolences to the family. Rest in peace Peter.
Thank you for your guidance, mentorship, and continued support throughout my career. You were truly an inspiration, and I will always remember the advice you gave me, the opportunities you provided, and your unwavering support.
This all happened so suddenly. I was lucky enough to take Professor Ostrowski’s class last semester. He is a very responsible professor and patiently answered my questions. At the same time, on moodle, Professor Ostrowski always put some cute cartoon characters to remind us some presautions for the exam. Thank you very much, Professor Ostrowski.
I had the honor of taking Professor Ostrowski’s class this winter. He is a very kind and professional professor. he was very patient in answering my questions. It is incredibly sudden and deeply saddening. I am truly grateful for his guidance.

Peter and I met 15 years ago when we both were hired at Algoma University in Brampton, throughout the years he was always a very jovial and larger than life character when he entered a room. We had many discussions over the years, he was kind and sharing, quick witted and humorous and his students loved him. He will be missed by us all.
Peter:
You are sadly missing by your sister. I really enjoyed our weekly breakfasts.
Mary
