elevated kvs1e REGINA PFENDT (née Loch) Born January 19, 1932, in Marienfeld, Banat, Romania, to ethnic Germans known as Danube Swabians, died peacefully on Wednesday, November 22, 2023. After the war, she met her future husband, Franz Josef Pfendt, at a displacement camp. They emigrated and were married in Windsor, Ontario, later settling in Scarborough. She was the proud mother to their three children, Helga, Frank and Ilse; devoted oma/grandmother of Sara, Mollie, Hannah and Brendan; and great-grandmother to August. It takes courage to come to a new country, learn a new language, both spoken and written; she was successful in both. Always tenacious, ‘What I can’t do with a pencil, I can do with a needle’ was her response to her first Canadian employer when she couldn’t read the job application. She infused love and life into everything that she created with her hands. She was an extremely talented dressmaker who worked with independent designers, followed by long tenure at the CBC in the costume/wardrobe department. Her daughter-in-law will be forever grateful for the ‘altering and remaking’ of her wedding dress, which had been handed down to her by her own mother. Creative ahead of her time with her grandchildren’s clothing, she dressed them and herself Haute Couture. From humble beginnings, she lived a long life, was loved by her family, and will always be remembered. Our thanks to Sts. Peter and Paul Residence, and to the compassionate care of the ER staff at Scarborough Centenary Hospital. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Holy Cross Catholic Funeral Home, 211 Langstaff Road East, Thornhill. Service will be held Saturday, December 16, 2023, with visitation from 10:00 – 11:30 a.m. and Mass at 12:00 p.m. Burial at cemetery
