Born in Port of Spain, Trinidad & Tobago, a sibling of five, she came to Canada at 29 yrs. of age, by way of England, where she had lived and studied for seven years. Shortly after arriving in Canada, she began working in the Office of the Crown Attorney for the Judicial District of York. Where she remained for 34 years, until retirement.

She was an avid reader her whole life. Oftentimes, recollecting of how she would sit on the front stoop of her home as a child, reading and imagining herself travelling abroad. When asked why she left her homeland, she would say, “I got tired of looking at the same old mangy dog walking up and down the same street every day.” She would also keep herself current with world events. A behaviour she would continue to hone right up until her last days.

As a single parent, she was dedicated, attentive, protective, nurturing, wise and most of all, loving. Never once outwardly displaying a wavering in her parental responsibilities.
She had a warm strength of character that invited and touched all who were in her presence.

She was a devout Catholic and long-standing proud member of the St. Thomas Moore Parish, Catholic Women’s League, of which she was blessed to have made many friends throughout the years.

Her religious grounding was evident. When speaking casually or formally she would often times use specific catchphrases to elucidate a point such as, “Pray without ceasing.” “Words are Wind, Blows are Unkind.” “That when God called for her, she would answer.”

In her final days, she faced the challenges of dementia that are unfortunately known to too many grieving souls. However, Veronica’s beautiful, happy, friendly, fiercely protective, and independent spirit still shone through. Her love of Life, Family and Friends serves as a reminder that, as she would put it, “The Spirit Endures.”  She will be missed, FOREVER.
