elevated XSZoD Obituary
It is with very heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our most beloved Mom, Elizabeth Agnes Cashman (Deans). She passed away peacefully, with her daughter Paddy at her side, on Thursday, April 9, 2026 in Markham Stouffville Hospital. She recently celebrated her 100th birthday, surrounded by her immediate family. Everyone knew her as Betty, but to us she was Mom, Nana and Great Nana.

elevated XSZoD Mom was born in Hamilton on March 4, 1926 to her parents Albert and Elizabeth Deans. She was predeceased by them, and her older siblings, Albert and John Deans and Mary Bell. She was also predeceased by her husband, David Edward (Ed) Cashman and her oldest son, James (Jim) Cashman. She graduated from St. Michael’s Hospital School of Nursing in 1948 and dedicated over 30 years to the hospital as a compassionate registered nurse. Her surviving children are Diane Legg (Roger), Gerald (Gerry) Cashman (Kathy), Patricia (Paddy) Cashman, Rosemary Drury, and Joanne Kay (Bill). Betty was Nana to Patrick Corr (Jennifer), Michael Corr, Kathleen (Kadie) Butterfield (Will), Robert and David Cashman, Deanna (Joseph), Kathleen and Marianne Drury, and Matthew Kay.

elevated XSZoD Next to family, Mom’s deep Roman Catholic faith sustained her. She attended St. Helen’s Parish for years, then was very active at St. Joan of Arc Parish, and for a short while, attended St. David’s Parish.

elevated XSZoD She became a resident at Amica Unionville in 2022 where she was well looked after. We would like to thank all of her care givers and the staff who smiled, waved and said “Hi Betty” as she did daily walks up and down the halls.
