elevated XSZoD Obituary
It is with very heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our most beloved Mom, Elizabeth Agnes Cashman (Deans). She passed away peacefully, with her daughter Paddy at her side, on Thursday, April 9, 2026 in Markham Stouffville Hospital. She recently celebrated her 100th birthday, surrounded by her immediate family. Everyone knew her as Betty, but to us she was Mom, Nana and Great Nana.
elevated XSZoD Mom was born in Hamilton on March 4, 1926 to her parents Albert and Elizabeth Deans. She was predeceased by them, and her older siblings, Albert and John Deans and Mary Bell. She was also predeceased by her husband, David Edward (Ed) Cashman and her oldest son, James (Jim) Cashman. She graduated from St. Michael’s Hospital School of Nursing in 1948 and dedicated over 30 years to the hospital as a compassionate registered nurse. Her surviving children are Diane Legg (Roger), Gerald (Gerry) Cashman (Kathy), Patricia (Paddy) Cashman, Rosemary Drury, and Joanne Kay (Bill). Betty was Nana to Patrick Corr (Jennifer), Michael Corr, Kathleen (Kadie) Butterfield (Will), Robert and David Cashman, Deanna (Joseph), Kathleen and Marianne Drury, and Matthew Kay.
elevated XSZoD She was Great Nana to Riley and Eavan Corr, and Willow and Autumn Butterfield. She also had many nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews, too numerous to mention. She will be deeply missed by all of us who loved her warm smiles, gentle manner and amazing determination.
elevated XSZoD Next to family, Mom’s deep Roman Catholic faith sustained her. She attended St. Helen’s Parish for years, then was very active at St. Joan of Arc Parish, and for a short while, attended St. David’s Parish.
elevated XSZoD She became a resident at Amica Unionville in 2022 where she was well looked after. We would like to thank all of her care givers and the staff who smiled, waved and said “Hi Betty” as she did daily walks up and down the halls.
elevated XSZoD In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or a
charity of your choice.

She lived a long and storied life! May she rest in peace.
RIP Mrs. C. 🙏. A century of grace, beauty, and strength.
Condolences to all. Regardless the age it is still hard to say goodbye. She will assuredly be well remembered.
Mrs Cashman was our Employee Health Unit Nurse at St Michael’s Hospital. I could never forget her. She took care of us. Wow. 100. She always showed grace. Rest in Peace Mrs Cashman🙏
Aunt Betty lived her faith with quiet strength. We entrust her to God with gratitude for the love and devotion she gave so freely.”
Loving God,
We entrust to You today Your faithful daughter, Aunt Betty,
who walked through this life with a rosary in her hands
and Your name upon her heart.
You were her refuge in every sorrow,
her joy in every blessing,
and her strength in every trial.
Receive her now into the light of Your presence,
where faith becomes sight
and every tear is wiped away.
Grant her the peace promised to those who love You,
the rest prepared for the humble and the prayerful,
and the embrace of the saints she honored so dearly.
May Our Blessed Mother, whom she trusted so deeply,
guide her safely to Your eternal home
and wrap her in the mantle of her tender care.
And for us who remain,
give comfort, healing, and hope.
Help us to live with the same quiet devotion
and steady faith that she carried so gracefully.
Eternal rest grant unto her, O Lord,
and let perpetual light shine upon her.
May she rest in peace. Amen.
I feel truly grateful to have known her over the years. She was a very kind and gentle soul, always so warm, always smiling, and her faith shone through in everything she did. She had a quiet grace that made everyone around her feel at ease and cared for.
She will be remembered with much love and admiration, and her spirit will continue to live on in all those whose lives she touched.
I will always remember her sweet smile.
RIP Mrs C. 🙏
I had the privilege of working with Betty Cashman at St. Michael’s Hospital in Employee Health. She was truly one of the kindest people I’ve ever known, she brought warmth and compassionate to everyone. I will forever remember her with a smile. May she rest in peace.
