elevated wuum8 Frances (Francie) Constance Gattie, 80, of Mississauga, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, surrounded by her family and close friends. Born on November 9,1945, in Nordegg, Alberta, Francie was the beloved daughter of the late John and Rose Rocchio.

elevated wuum8 Francie was raised in a close‑knit family, where her parents instilled in her the values of hard work, dedication, and deep commitment to family.

elevated wuum8 After graduating from St. Joseph Morrow Park High School in Toronto, she attended Western University for two years before transferring to Lakeshore Teacher’s College. Francie began — and ultimately concluded — her remarkable 35‑year career with the Toronto Catholic School Board, teaching grades 1 through 8. She later changed course to pursue counselling, earning her master’s degree from the University of Toronto in 1991. In the final decade of her career, she served as a guidance counsellor at three schools. She devoted her life to inspiring young minds and was widely known as a mentor to colleagues, always encouraging others to become the best versions of themselves. Her support extended well beyond the classroom, especially during challenging times for friends and family.

elevated wuum8 Even after retiring from teaching, Francie continued to give of herself. She worked as a Warren‑Shepell counsellor, supporting employees and their families in navigating work, health, and life challenges. She cherished her five years with this organization, which served more than 20 million individuals worldwide.

elevated wuum8 In 1975, Francie married her beloved husband, the late Donald Gattie. Together they built a life filled with love, devotion, and adventure. They made their home in Mississauga, creating a warm and welcoming space where friends and family gathered often. Their years together were rich with travel, time at their cottage at Indian Point, and boating. Francie often said her best years were spent with Don.

elevated wuum8 Francie embraced life with enthusiasm. She was an avid golfer, a dragon boat racer, a passionate book club member, and someone who loved socializing with friends and family. She was known for her fearless spirit, kind heart, humour, and unwavering dedication to those she loved.

elevated wuum8 She is survived by her brothers Ron (Maureen) and Bernie (Jane) Rocchio; her stepchildren Janice Friend (Steve) and David Gattie (Leah); and her cherished grandchildren Cynthia (Paul), Tanya (Andy), Darren (Chelsea), and Ben. Her five great‑grandchildren enriched her life and brought her immense joy.

elevated wuum8 Francie was predeceased by her dear friend and “sister” Joanne O’Gorman-McCaffrey (Gerry). She is survived by her other dear friends and “sisters” Pam McBride (Clive) and Adelle Wilkinson‑Harris (Paul).

elevated wuum8 Francie was a devoted aunt to Jacki (Dave), Christine (Carmen), Michael, and Mark (deceased), and a loving great‑aunt to Jennifer (Carson) and Duncan (Lay). She will be fondly remembered by numerous cousins, extended family members, and friends.

elevated wuum8 Friends may call at Assumption Catholic Cemetery and Funeral Home on Sunday, July 26, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, July 27, 2026, at 11:00 a.m., followed by a celebration of life. Burial will take place at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Lindsay, Ontario, on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, at 12:00 p.m.
