elevated wuFdW Frances (Francie) Constance Gattie, 80, of Mississauga, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, surrounded by her family and close friends. Born on November 9,1945, in Nordegg, Alberta, Francie was the beloved daughter of the late John and Rose Rocchio.
elevated wuFdW Francie was raised in a close‑knit family, where her parents instilled in her the values of hard work, dedication, and deep commitment to family.
elevated wuFdW After graduating from St. Joseph Morrow Park High School in Toronto, she attended Western University for two years before transferring to Lakeshore Teacher’s College. Francie began — and ultimately concluded — her remarkable 35‑year career with the Toronto Catholic School Board, teaching grades 1 through 8. She later changed course to pursue counselling, earning her master’s degree from the University of Toronto in 1991. In the final decade of her career, she served as a guidance counsellor at three schools. She devoted her life to inspiring young minds and was widely known as a mentor to colleagues, always encouraging others to become the best versions of themselves. Her support extended well beyond the classroom, especially during challenging times for friends and family.
elevated wuFdW Even after retiring from teaching, Francie continued to give of herself. She worked as a Warren‑Shepell counsellor, supporting employees and their families in navigating work, health, and life challenges. She cherished her five years with this organization, which served more than 20 million individuals worldwide.
elevated wuFdW In 1975, Francie married her beloved husband, the late Donald Gattie. Together they built a life filled with love, devotion, and adventure. They made their home in Mississauga, creating a warm and welcoming space where friends and family gathered often. Their years together were rich with travel, time at their cottage at Indian Point, and boating. Francie often said her best years were spent with Don.
elevated wuFdW Francie embraced life with enthusiasm. She was an avid golfer, a dragon boat racer, a passionate book club member, and someone who loved socializing with friends and family. She was known for her fearless spirit, kind heart, humour, and unwavering dedication to those she loved.
elevated wuFdW She is survived by her brothers Ron (Maureen) and Bernie (Jane) Rocchio; her stepchildren Janice Friend (Steve) and David Gattie (Leah); and her cherished grandchildren Cynthia (Paul), Tanya (Andy), Darren (Chelsea), and Ben. Her five great‑grandchildren enriched her life and brought her immense joy.
elevated wuFdW Francie was predeceased by her dear friend and “sister” Joanne O’Gorman-McCaffrey (Gerry). She is survived by her other dear friends and “sisters” Pam McBride (Clive) and Adelle Wilkinson‑Harris (Paul).
elevated wuFdW Francie was a devoted aunt to Jacki (Dave), Christine (Carmen), Michael, and Mark (deceased), and a loving great‑aunt to Jennifer (Carson) and Duncan (Lay). She will be fondly remembered by numerous cousins, extended family members, and friends.
elevated wuFdW Friends may call at Assumption Catholic Cemetery and Funeral Home on Sunday, July 26, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, July 27, 2026, at 11:00 a.m., followed by a celebration of life. Burial will take place at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Lindsay, Ontario, on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, at 12:00 p.m.

A lovely woman, full of spunky attitude and a warm heart. Always enjoyed chatting and laughing when we had the chance. Condolences to her family and friends. You were blessed to have known her.

Francie was a bright light, a real character, fierce. A great listener.We were often partnered in our Dragonboat and shared many a laugh. She was a beautiful soul. Happy she no longer suffers and is spending eternity with Don, the love of her life. ❤️
I will always remember the time I spent with Francie at dragon boating and the afternoons I spent trying to teach her how to delete pictures from her computer. The biggest challenge wasn’t learning how to delete them but was deciding which elephant photo to part with, even though all 50 looked exactly the same.

Francie was a lively,caring and very sociable person. On trips or on the golf course she was wonderful company, always ready for the next adventure. I feel privileged to have known her. Sincere condolences to Francie’s family and friends.
My cousin Francie was truly one of a kind, an amazing lady with a strong spirit and strong convictions. We often found ourselves on opposite sides of political discussions, but those conversations were always marked by one of her greatest strengths: her ability to listen. Francie genuinely wanted to understand both sides before reaching her own conclusions. Even when we disagreed, we respected one another, and I always appreciated her willingness to engage with thoughtfulness and grace. That is one of the many qualities I will remember and admire about her. She will be greatly missed.
Francie will be missed. She radiated love, compassion and kindness and fun, so much fun. I wanted to be her when I grew up. She welcomed me and my daughter to Wild Chicks with a smile. She was always up for the bar and never seemed to be afraid to try something new. She gave everything she had on the water and off it, whether that was golf or pickle ball or the myriad of other things she took on. But she also gave of herself to others, listening without judging. She will be sorely missed.
I always loved being with Francie….she made every visit fun!

I was so shocked & saddened to hear of Francee’s passing. I met her when she was moving into our condo building the same time as I was about 11 years ago. She was a very nice person who always said hi. We had a few nice chats over the years. My sincerest condolences to Francee’s Family & Friends.
