elevated XYsbu Obituary
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Kevin Symington on August 8, 2026 at Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital. He was 93.
elevated XYsbu Born on April 23, 1933 in County Tyrone, Northern Ireland, Kevin lived a life defined by hard work, love for his family, and an unwavering commitment to the church. At the age of 22, he left home for the promise of a new life in Canada, where, with invaluable help from his McLoughlin cousins, he found his footing in the Brampton area. After a job installing TV antennas in Georgetown, he found work at a the Loblaws store in Weston — a location that also brought him closer to the Irish club in Toronto, where he would meet and wed a beautiful Galway girl, Margaret Una McNamara. She was an angel, and together they raised four boys in the Pelmo Park–Weston area, where bonds were formed that remain tight to this day.
elevated XYsbu As the family grew, Kevin purchased a house in Burlington closer to a school for the deaf that would serve his son, Kevin Jr. The two of them moved there together, while Margaret remained at the family home on Langside Ave. in Pelmo/Weston. It was in Burlington that Kevin transitioned into a career as a school custodian across the Halton area, beloved for his energy, character, and joy of teaching the school kids Irish jigs. As he transitioned schools, send-offs were spirited affairs, often complete with a piper, Irish dancers and a shamrock cake.
elevated XYsbu Though never one for soft words or open displays of affection, he was there when support was needed, most notably for Kevin Jr. and his family. He also took great pride in helping his grandchildren through school, and found quiet joy simply watching their lives unfold.
elevated XYsbu A lifelong follower of the Gaelic Athletic Assoc. (GAA) and his beloved Tyrone footballers, his heart never fully left Ireland — a fact made clear by the several trips home he made throughout his life, always returning to the county that raised him.
elevated XYsbu Kevin was predeceased by his father George, mother Anne (née McCluskey), brother Hugh, sister May (née Hughes), wife Margaret (2017), and son Brian (2014). He is survived by his sons Dermot (Debbie), Kevin Jr. (Nicole), and Colin (Kathy), and his cherished grandchildren Matthew, Shannon, Kyle, Shane, Zephrine, Storm and Una.
elevated XYsbu Though he built a life and a legacy across the Atlantic, County Tyrone remained forever home to his heart. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dílis — may his faithful soul rest at the right hand of God.

I am so sorry to hear of Kevin’s passing. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him. I will especially miss him being from Ireland myself I felt a closeness to him. He was always jolly and loved to sing and dance.
My condolences to his three sons and families.
Freda Hall.
Kevin was my Great Uncle. Son of my Granny Annie Symington and Brother to my Nanny May Symington. I have great memories of Kevin coming to Co.Tyrone and taking us out, My Nanny and sister Leanne for a trip to Monaghan in his hire Volkswagen Beetle with the best horn I ever heard. We didn’t get to see him much after as we moved to England. But My nanny always talked about him. It’s an end of an era as he was the last Elder alive From Ireland. R.I.P. Uncle Kevin 😢❤️
It was such a beautiful service, and so lovely to hear how I remember his joyfulness was the same for all around him, I can picture him doing a little jig with a big smile, always reminded us how important it is to pray, he was good for a joke, just like Nanny, but also had his serious side too. I’ll really miss him, we last saw him in person at Nanny’s funeral, and that’s when he was the most quiet I’ve seen him, someone here mentioned the same when seeing him last but I think that was through another loss. I remember monaghan, I’ve looked, it’s quite the journey from coalisland, but we must have laughed all the way there. I remember a cafe, a large glass of milk and my feet to young to touch the floor.
It’s such a very sad monumental loss for us all. You’re the eldest now Stephen on our side.
Rest in peace forever Uncle Kevin, with Granny Annie, Nanny May, Uncle Hugh, Dad and Uncle Ned.
I can’t believe you’ve all gone.
I love you Stephen. Xx
Love you too Leanne xxx❤️xxx
My deepest sympathies and condolences.
Dermot and Family,
My sincerest condolences for the passing of your beloved father.
With deepest sympathy.
Thinking of you all.
You are in our thoughts and prayers.
RIP Uncle Kevin
It is with sadness I express my condolence to all the family in the passing of Kevin.
I knew Kevin growing up in Coalisland and when the 4 Coalisland young men emigrated to Canada I still kept in touch. while living in Canada.
I always remember Kevin as being friendly and quiet the last time I spoke to him was at Jim Cullen’s funeral .
I also knew all his family back in Coalisland beautiful people.
Kevin RIP

I send my utmost sympathy to Kevin’s sons and their families. I worked with Kevin at Mohawk Gardens PS and a finer person you could not hope to meet. A true gentleman and a hard worker. His very first day at Mohawk Gardens he made a very unusual entrance- he introduced himself and said he was going to check out the school’s roof. He promptly fell through the ceiling! (He refused to be checked at the hospital) . At Christmas he dressed as an Elf while his night employee – much bigger than Kevin- portrayed Santa at our school Open House. It was so hard for me to plan his retirement party, complete with piper, because I did not want him to leave the school.
A wonderful, wonderful man who I will always remember with fondness.
Sending my sympathy to all the family.
Condolences to you, Dermot and all your family. It seems like your father lived a full rich life. Sending love and prayers.
Dear Dermot. Please accept my sincere condolences on the passing away of your dad. May his soul rest in peace.
