Frank Smith
elevated 7F7A2 Our cherished Francis (Frank) Michael Smith spent his final days surrounded by family and loved ones before passing on Thursday, October 28, 2021, at the age of 81. He was born in Toronto, Ontario on January 30th, 1940, to Theodore Michael Joseph Smith and Margaret Josephine Smith, nee Mallon. A student of Runnymede Collegiate high school in Toronto, Frank was a lover of the arts and an active member in the Canadian Judo community, obtaining the title of youngest Green Belt in Canada. A playful spirit, Frank met his beloved wife Joan Rita Smith, nee Hillas in 1961and they were married in St. James Church with their reception at The Old Mill in Toronto in 1964. Relocating from Toronto, Frank and his young family moved to their home in The Valleys area in Mississauga and enjoyed 57 years of marriage.
elevated 7F7A2 A true renaissance man, Frank took delight in many things: a skilled photographer and gifted artist, a lover of theatre and film. He found delight in food, music, and classic sports cars. Frank was a great fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Toronto Argonauts. Joan has fond memories of her friends referring to Frank as the man in the little red sports car when picking her up from teacher’s college. He spent his summers at Hope Bay where he was always ready for a boat ride, leisurely drive to the local flea market or waterside restaurants and loved organizing events for the enjoyment of all.
elevated 7F7A2 More than what he loved, Frank was to anyone who met him a jovial presence with the ability to put people at ease with his zany sense of humour and genuine eagerness to connect. He found joy most in the time he spent with family and took great pleasure in keeping up to date with each and every one of his many grandchildren.
elevated 7F7A2 He is survived by; his loving wife Joan and mother-in-law Rita, his two children Michael Francis Smith and Lori-Ann Margaret Smith, of whom he was a dependable and wonderful father, sister Julie Anne Skjold-Pettersen, nee Smith (brother in law, Lars) of whom he was a loving guardian and sister Susan Smith.
elevated 7F7A2 “Pop” to Jaymi, Madyson, Alexandra, Kira, Michael, Katelyn, Dylan, and Great Pop to Ryker Skjold.
elevated 7F7A2 Brother-in-law to Carol Crockatt and her husband Bill, and uncle to their daughters Shannon Crockatt and Lindsay Lueck as well as brother-in-law to Wayne Crockatt and uncle to his daughters Patricia Amaya, Sheri Balfour, and Kimberly Crockatt. Niece to Carrie Lewis.
elevated 7F7A2 He is preceded in death by his brother Edward (Teddy) Smith and sister Patricia (Pat) Crockatt nee Smith.

Dear Smith Family,
I was deeply saddened by this news. My heartfelt condolences to the whole and extended family.
I remember many great summers at HB visiting with the Smith family, on the beach, watching our children growing up. My first husband, sold our first sailboat to Rita’s husband! Frank was indeed a wonderful man and always so cheerful, kind and fun.
Just incase you don’t remember who I am, because my name changed some time ago, I am the mother of Peter, Martin, Maureen and Libby. We had a cottage on Apple Lane HB.
Again, my deepest condolences, lots of strength and love from all of us in the US.

Frank was always a friendly face across the street and a great neighbour since we’ve lived here, taking turns going to each other’s garage sales throughout the years.
