Marilyn Louise MacDonald (née McGroarty) passed away peacefully on May 23, 2025, surrounded by her loving family in her suite at Amica Bayview Gardens. She was 90 years old and a longtime resident of North York, Ontario.

elevated Iy57U Marilyn is lovingly remembered by her husband of 62 years, John William MacDonald; her children, John A. MacDonald (Vanessa) and Deborah Kimmerly (Gregory); and her cherished grandchildren: Amanda and John K. MacDonald, and Danielle and Sean Kimmerly.

elevated Iy57U She is also survived by her siblings Paul (the late Suzanne), Mary Ann Gallacher (the late Ian), and Greg (Sandie), and was predeceased by her parents, James and Louise McGroarty, and her brother, Ross McGroarty.

elevated Iy57U Marilyn was a devoted wife, a loving mother and grandmother and a woman known for her warmth, kindness and sharp wit. She was the lively centre of any social gathering – renowned not only for her tall tales and sparkling presence but also for her genuine curiosity about the lives of those around her. Whether chatting with lifelong friends or newfound acquaintances, Marilyn enthusiastically forged meaningful connections through her curious spirit and generous heart.

elevated Iy57U A lifelong adventurer, Marilyn embraced every opportunity to live life to the fullest. She was an avid skier and a bold spirit who eagerly dared to try water skiing and parasailing. A voracious traveller, she called not only Welland and Toronto home but also Boston, Beijing and Kobe. She had a deep love of culture – celebrating live music, theatre, museums and especially the joy of dining out. Known for her enthusiasm, her fashion flair and her deep appreciation for life’s celebrations, Marilyn’s zest for living has left a lasting impression on everyone lucky enough to know her.

elevated Iy57U The family extends heartfelt thanks to the compassionate team at Amica Bayview Gardens, where Marilyn lived since 2017, and to the dedicated caregivers from the Temmy Latner Centre for Palliative Care whose exceptional support and guidance brought comfort in her final days. The family is also deeply grateful for the dear friends Marilyn made at Amica who brought her joy, laughter and companionship throughout her later years.
