elevated 7AnDn It is with great sadness AND tremendous joy that we say goodbye to A. John Rourke who passed away peacefully at 6am on Wednesday October 21st at North York General Hospital from heart failure. He is now in eternal paradise with Jesus and all the saints that have gone before him. Joining his siblings, Terry, Pat, Janet, Brian and Charles. Along with his parents John Spencer and Elinor. As well as his son, Sean. We know they are having one big Rourke Family Reunion! “Buagh”(Irish family motto meaning victory)!
elevated 7AnDn John was the devoted husband to Dianne, beloved daddy to Stéphanie (Rob), Jennifer (Tom), Kelly (Gary), Sean (Fran), grandfather to Luke, Taylor, Karley, Dakota, Travis, Spencer and Alma-Sofia, uncle, brother and friend to many.
elevated 7AnDn John will be desperately missed and deeply remembered for his ability to tell detailed stories, sense of adventure, love of music, tenderness and compassion. His quiet strength and sensitivity attracted many to want to be in his company.
elevated 7AnDn There will be a family only celebration of life in November at Holy Cross Cemetery, Thornhill where John will be laid to rest near his son, Sean, who passed away in February 2020.

Dianne, I’m SO very sorry to hear this and was hoping to visit you both before I move next week, but it’s just not possible. I loved working with John years ago and we shared many stores together which also got me through a rough time back in the day. I am thinking about you and your girls and I’m sending you big feel better hugs. xo

I will always remember his smiling face when he used to come to St. John and even during his very fragile days, he would accompany you there to keep you company, be it during your “coffee service”, or selling tickets for fundraising, and on so many more occasions . This is the hardest call. Losing your life partner is such a blow. I am still reeling myself and know that somehow you will find the strength to pull through the early difficult days with prayers and dedications. There are no words to express my sadness for you and yours in this time of sorrow. I know your children will provide the strength needed to continue being the family Rourke. Buagh! We have been privileged over the past few years to be associated with you and John. Our friendship began at St. John’s where it was always a joy to see you both at the Greeter’s Table, greeting patients and visitors always with a smile, or assisting people in the Gift Shop. The world has been blessed with John’s presence, he was always a joyful, happy, sincere, and caring person even when he was struggling with health issues. He will be missed but at peace and out of pain smiling down on your family and friends. God Bless and loads of love. Helen & Dave

I am greatly saddened to learn that John has left us. He was a great friend and dedicated worker with SJRH volunteers. I understand why you can only have a ‘family only’ service but I’m sorry the pup🐶🐶pies and I won’t be able to say ‘goodbye’.
I recall how John loved to pet and talk to Roxanne and Ace. I remember we would get him comfortably ‘set up’ in the lobby then place the dog beside him. His warm smile as he petted a pooch was something to behold.
Keep the faith. Be strong.
