Ada Beatrice (Gilhooly) DeCouto, 93, originally of Madurai, India, passed away peacefully on September 23, 2026, at Mississauga Hospital, surrounded by her loving family.

elevated Ir0GR Born on November 29, 1932, in Madurai, she was the daughter of the late Irene and Reginald Gilhooly. Throughout her life, Ada fondly shared memories of her school days in Tiruchirappalli, India.

elevated Ir0GR She met Christy DeCouto at a dance, and they were married on January 12, 1955, in Madras, India. Together, they were blessed with two children, Faye and Nigel. In 1960, the family repatriated to London, England, where Ada quickly learned to knit sweaters to keep her young children warm. Known for her incredibly kind heart, Ada loved attending dances and was happiest when surrounded by her family.

elevated Ir0GR After later moving to Canada, Ada embraced her role as a grandmother to Faye and Adrian’s children, Ian (Darrah) and Leann, as well as Nigel and Nicolette’s children, Liam (Anna), Damian, Marian, Sarah, Kathleen, Philip (Taylor), and Isabel. She was always ready to cook her grandchildren their favourite Anglo-Indian dishes and was later overjoyed to welcome her five great-grandchildren Gianna, Marcus, Luciano, Angelica, and Santiago.

elevated Ir0GR Ada was our beloved matriarch; her boundless joy and love will be deeply missed. We find comfort in knowing she is having a beautiful reunion with her late husband and her many family members who went before her.
