Obituary
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Aldo Cerlon at the age of 94. Beloved husband of 62 years to Pierina Cerlon, loving father to Laura Cerlon and Aldo Cerlon Jr.
elevated nO1TY Aldo immigrated to Canada in 1951 from Dignano, Italy (now Croatia). A skilled draftsman, upon settling in Toronto, he established a career in the aluminum extrusion industry. He began as a tool and die maker until he retired as a Plant Manager at Almag Aluminum.
elevated nO1TY Aldo was introduced to Pierina, who resided in Italy at the time, in the late 1950’s. Keeping in mind there was no internet, no dating apps, their courtship took place via beautifully written letters that had to cross oceans and took time to arrive. After multiple attempts to help Pierina immigrate to Canada, the only way for them to be together was as husband and wife. They made the courageous decision to marry by proxy and met for the first time as husband and wife in 1959. After 62 years of marriage, Pierina is left with priceless memories of Aldo’s sweet and very tender gestures of love.
elevated nO1TY Aldo became a father to Aldo Jr. and Laura. An amazing father, who rarely raised his voice, he was always ready with a big hug and smile, and pearls of wisdom that are treasured to this day.
elevated nO1TY Aldo was recognized by everyone he met for his kindness and gentle spirit. He was at his happiest when surrounded by family and friends, good food and wine. Aldo made friends for life, with many friendships going back decades to his early days in Canada. The family, as they pour over photos, marvel at how many depict gatherings with friends, almost always sharing great meals. Singing Italian folk songs “ad alta voce” was not uncommon. Poker games were known to have taken place. Blessed with a great sense of humour, his instinct was always to appreciate the positive side of any story or situation. Small in stature, Aldo had the heart of a giant. He will be dearly missed by all.
elevated nO1TY Due to COVID, a private mass and funeral will be held on October 7, 2021. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Heart & Stroke Foundation of Canada or Alzheimer Society Canada

Thank you,
Laura
Thank-you for the comment and thank-you for the beautiful flowers.
Aldo Jr., Laura, Mrs. Cerlon – my heartfelt condolences. I have so many great memories of sitting around your kitchen table on Deerford Rd., Aldo Sr. pulling out the wine jug and imparting nuggets of wisdom on a bunch of wide-eyed kids (not to mention a frequent risqué joke or two). For an Anglo kid growing up in the Toronto suburbs, those moments were my first exposure to European lifestyle, culture and food (who knew a simple sandwich could taste like that?). They are times that helped shape me and I will carry them for life. Thank-you, and rest peacefully Aldo Sr. A life well-lived.
Thank you Gord!
Oh my gosh, you are making me giggle!
What great memories..
Your love and support is very much appreciated.
Sending a big hug,
Laura
Hi Gord. Very nice words. Thanks so much. Jr.
Every once in a while I recall some wonderful moments of laughter I shared with Aldo. His fatherly approach convinced me Almag was going to be the place I want to work. Every step of the way through my working years under his mentorship at Almag was very rewarding and he always applauded my accomplishments. I am ever so grateful to have had Aldo as my mentor during my early years here in Canada working for him. I feel honoured to have known and worked for a very dedicated and pleasant man. May his soul rest in peace. Pierina, Aldo Jr. and Laura I share your grief.
Oh my goodness Wilfred!
I certainly don’t remember a lot of folks from my Dad’s days at Almag (I was young..).
But I do remember him speaking of you.
I believe Aldo’s spirit is alive and well and I have no doubt he is so very appreciative of your beautiful note.
Take good care,
Laura
Thank-you Wilfred. I know my Dad was very fond of you. Aldo Jr.
To my dear friend Laura. My memories of your father are of a kind and gentle man who always had a smile and warm heart. He was a kindred spirit to my own step-dad George and although they didn’t spend a lot of time together, I always saw a connection between these two gentle souls and their feisty wives, our moms. I hope his memory and long life is a comfort to you, your mom, your brother and of course, David and Rosana. Love from me and my mom Jeannette to you all.
Thank you Mary! You are so right about my Dad and George. They were indeed kindred spirits. Thank you so much for joining us on Thursday. Sending back lots of love, to you and Jeannette, and Bob!
Thank-you Mary. Aldo Jr.
