elevated 9W1YL It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dearest Alfonz Viktor Pavli on Friday, April 23, 2021. He passed away peacefully with family by his side.
elevated 9W1YL He leaves behind his adored family. Beloved husband of Gaby. Loving father of Steffan and Annia. Devoted brother of Catharina (Joseph). Cherished uncle of Alexander, Matthew and Natasha as well as beloved son-in-law of Antonio and Margarita, and cuñado and tío to the extended family in México . He will also be sadly missed and fondly remembered by all his family in Slovenia and Austria.

Gaby , Stephan and Annia, please know that you are in our prayers and our thoughts in this difficult time. Alf touched everyone he met with his easy going nature and friendly personality. We are all honored to have known him and to have called him friend.
So sad to hear this news. I worked with Alfonz for 3 years up to 2015. He was hardworking, thoughtful, kind and generous. We would often chat late in the day while he was working to ensure the best experience for our customer, and he would always stop to share a joke or some stories about his family.
It was my honour to know him for that short time.

Dear Gaby Steffan Annia and family. I’m so sorry and sad for your loss. I met Alfonz over 25 years ago and we quickly became close friends. He was the hardest working, most kind, friendly and genuine person. With Gaby’s help, Alfonz fought cancer for so long with the same positive and brave attitude he had in life. For the 15 or so years I have known Alfonz, he has always been a wonderful friend and great colleague. He always looked at things on a positive side and the one to crack a joke or two to keep everyone calm. Even though I have never met Gaby, Steffan or Annia, Alfonz shared the wonderful stories about you. We always chatted over kids sports activities and the joy it brings.
This world had lost a wonderful star, but the memories he has left with us will remain forever.

I worked with Alfonz for over 12 years on various projects. He was always cheerful and his smile was contagious.

What an extraordinary tribute to Alfonz precious life. I have fond memories of meeting him long ago and knowing him as Catharina’s loving and devoted brother throughout his life. He is no doubt witnessing this incredible outpouring of love and must be feeling such peace with a life well lived and well loved.

Alfonz and I first met in grade school, Miss Fromm’s kindergarten class at St Teresa’s in Kitchener I believe. Our friendship started there and continued through high school at St Jerome’s HS, through university at University of Waterloo and through adult life these 57 plus years.
Alfonz was the greatest of friend. He was always concerned about you and your wellbeing.
He was always interested in how I was doing, my work life, my family life, my wife Janice, my children Michael, Emily and Sam, my daughter-in-law, my grand children, my parents, my siblings and my extended family. This was not the casual conversational interest but true and sincere. Alfonz was always genuinely interest about me and my family.
That was Alfonz, a genuine friend and caring person.
Growing up, Alfonz was always the voice of reason, that calm sober second thought brought to what Catharina called our “mischievous energy”. We were always thankful for that.
Alfonz was a proud and loving husband and father. When he spoke of his wife Gaby and children Steffan and Annia, you immediately saw in his body language, his facial expression, the twinkle in his eye and heard in his voice, how proud he was of his wife and family.
On Monday morning I was outside doing some yard work, when a majestic bald eagle flew in from the Sauble River, circled around overhead and flew back down the river. I am convinced it was by dear friend Alf, checking in to say hello.
“And he will raise you up on eagle’s wings,
bear you on the breath of dawn,
make you to shine like the sun,
and hold you in the palm of his hand.”
God Bless you and rest in peace my dear friend Alfonz. The world is truly a better place because of you and your impact.

It is hard for me to express how I am feeling except that I am blessed that Alfonz took me as a friend and as a trusted colleague. Our friendship evolved quickly to almost having no split between work and personal life. We are both idiotically workaholics and he always used to joke that I was the company’s milk man (early starter) and he is the G collector (turns off the lights at the end of the day).
Alfonz is someone that has long lasting impact on everyone he dealt with.

I first met Alfonz in 1978 at the University of Waterloo. We became instant friends. I recall working on an assignment together one weekend and he stayed for dinner. Afterwards Alfonz played a couple of pieces on the piano (better than anyone in our house could), which left quite an impression on my parents.
Over the years, we got together often, but somehow not often enough. We usually philosophized and solved all of the problems of the world. Sports, travel and family were often favorite topics. He always inquired about my family and I about his. He was deep and sincere when it came to matters of family and it was obvious that he was a deeply proud and loving parent and husband.
I will deeply miss him. Godspeed to you my dear friend.

Those of us who were lucky enough to know Alfonz have sadness but very fond memories.
Whether it was work or after work get togethers, he was always a caring person.
Alfonz got noticed because of his dedication to his work: he would not compromise on quality; he treated everyone with respect; always looking for diplomatic win-win solutions to solve problems; he always delivered.
Alfonz was a private person but when he spoke of his family his face would light up with a big grin. He was a proud father and husband. Speaking fondly of his family trips, you got the sense that he cared very much for his family and his memorial video confirms this.
Throughout his long battle with cancer he was concerned about his low energy, his grumpy mood and that he was not always good company! Really Alfonz?
I am saddened but I have admiration for what he has accomplished here on earth and what is yet to come from his place in heaven.

It’s hard to find men like him anymore – kind, caring, thoughtful, curious, stoic, a man of principal, authentic…. my only regret is that he was not able to reap the fruits of his hard work. He was just closing in on retirement. Reading these comments though warms my and Gaby’s heart. He left a lasting legacy and will always be remembered for his gentleness.

I first knew Alfonz as a neighbour in a small apartment building we both lived in… a special place where 4 of us neighbours (including Alfonz) would have “travelling” dinner parties, with one course in each person’s place. Alfonz would share beautiful photos he’d taken on his travels, along with Ouzo he saved for special occasions. I’ll never forget his warm, gentle humour and kind, generous outlook on life.
Guy and I were blessed to attend Gaby & Alfonz’s wedding in Mexico while we were on our own honeymoon… such beautiful memories.

Hola Gaby , hola familia deseo expresarte mi pesar en estos momentos y tiempo que pasaron con Alfonz muy dificiles solo con el acompañamiento de Nuestro Señor Nuestro Dios es posible hacerlo y claro esta que el esta con Udes les dara la resignacion y fuerza para continuar en nuestro caminar por esta vida ,Alfonz ya esta gozando de una vida Eterna y Dios nos permita en nuestro momento llegar a ella

Richard and I first met Alfonz and Gaby when we moved to Tangmere in early 2004.
Gaby and Alfonz welcomed us as neighbours with open arms, kindness and hospitality. We have so many fond memories of those early days.
We particularly remember how proud Alfonz was of Steffan and Annia, and how much he loved and cared for Gaby. He was an amazing neighbour and a great friend.
Alfonz and Gaby always hosted the best backyard BBQ’s. We have fond memories of our time spent with their family. They also helped us in so many ways, handing over used baby clothes, keeping our house safe when we weren’t there, sharing recipes, watching our cat, helping and always kind. The best neighbours we could ever ask for. They treated us like family.
Richard and I recently got to know Alfonz more intimately as they also both battled cancer. They would bump into each other at Sunnybrook, and share ideas about how to fight it.
Gabi and I also grew close in our shared battles.
We especially fondly remember our time together at our cottage in Aug 2019. Alfonz was the kind of guy who thought deeply about things. We had lots of interesting conversations and enjoyed this special time with him and Gaby.
Alfonz, we will always remember your kindness, your thoughful way and your sharp mind. We can still hear you telling us whenever we said goodbye “be good”.
You were the example of that, to us. We will miss hearing it but will remember it.
Gaby, Steffan and Annia, we send our deepest condelences at this sad time. We are confident that Alfonz, has gone ahead and is waiting on the other side, in heaven with open arms.

Alfonz’s life was a life was lived to its fullest. He will be remembered as a world traveler, who enjoyed a happy marriage, beautiful children, and being surrounded by wonderful family and friends. He had a distinguished career and a loving home where we were always welcome to enjoy some good wine, food and laughter. Memories we will always cherish always! Steffan and Jordan brought us together 16 years ago and for that we are grateful. We watched our families grow over this time. We sat in cold arenas and hot soccer fields and travelled to cities in Canada and the USA because of the love of family. We will always hold those memories very dear.
Remember that those we love don’t go away, they walk beside us everyday, unseen, unheard, but always near. Please also know we will be right here with you Gaby, Steffan and Annia as we have always been to remember, reminisce , cry and laugh. Although our dear friend is gone, he fought the good fight and will never be forgotten . Now It’s time to Rest in Peace dear Alfonz in God’s loving arms. I have just learned of Alfonz’ passing and am deeply saddened. I worked with Alfonz off and on several projects with Hydro One. He was the kindest and most dedicated gentleman; his cheerfulness was so infectious. Always had a smile, even when he came to visit us at our office in Richmond Hill despite being quite sick. Alfonz was also very proud of his family and spoke of you often.
May you rest in peace dear friend and enjoy the love that your spread.

I had the pleasure of sitting beside Alfonz at work, and that proximity came with many laughs, stories and friendship. A true gentleman, always putting everyone ahead of himself. I will fondly remember his parting words after every work day was ‘take care, be good’. May you rest in peace Alfonz, you will be missed.

I just heard about Alfonz passing. My deepest sympathies to the Pavli family. I knew Alfonz from work. He was kind, funny and very engaging in conversation. We had lots of laugh. Whenever I passed him in the hallway, he always took time to stop and say hello and ask how you were doing.
You will be missed.
