It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Fred (Alfred) D’Amato on Wednesday, September 17, 2025.
elevated F7eoS Fred was born and raised in Toronto, Ontario, to Nick and Ida D’Amato (nee Zupo). He was the youngest of six children.
elevated F7eoS Fred will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Maureen, with whom he shared nearly six decades of marriage, after marrying on June 24, 1967. Together, they were blessed with two wonderful children, Nick (Mary) and Michelle Bernaudo (Joey). Fred was also a proud and doting grandfather to his three grandchildren Dylan, Olivia, and Emma, each of whom brought him so much joy and held a special place in his heart.
elevated F7eoS Fred is survived by his loving wife, Maureen, and was predeceased by his son, Nick. He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and cherished memories with his family, including his nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
elevated F7eoS Fred dedicated 35 years of his career to Kodak Canada, where he worked shift work. Alongside this, he spent 25 years coaching hockey, including coaching his son, Nick. Fred was also a devoted father who spent hours building and driving dance displays for his daughter Michelle’s dance teams, always present at every event and activity.
elevated F7eoS Outside of his work and coaching, Fred had a passion for gardening, particularly tending to his roses and vegetables. He enjoyed chatting with his neighbours, cheering for his beloved Toronto Blue Jays, and most of all, spending time with his family and grandchildren. Fred and Maureen shared a love of travel, visiting many exciting destinations and creating lasting memories on holiday adventures with their children, grandchildren, and friends.
elevated F7eoS Fred took great pride in his roles as a husband, father, and poppa. His warmth, kindness, and sense of humor will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Dad you were the best father-in-law & Poppa! You’ve left us with such beautiful memories we will cherish forever! There’s no one I enjoyed baking banana bread for more than you! I know you’re with Nick & all our loved ones which brings me peace. We all now have another beautiful guardian angel to watch over us . You will be forever in our hearts & greatly missed. There are no words to express our sadness over the passing of Fred. He was always such a ray of sunshine and had a beautiful smile and a hug for everyone. He will be missed by everyone who knew him. Heaven has one more angel today! Love and Prayers.
Fred was a wonderful man who cherished both family and friends. I enjoyed the many sports related conversations he and I had – especially listening to him tell me what our beloved Blue Jays, football and hockey teams needed to do in order to win. He will certainly be missed. Rest in peace my friend.
Mr. D’Amato you were always so friendly and happy go lucky! You were humourous and you always made people laugh. You will be missed by everyone. Thank you for your kindness. Uncle Fred, you are the uncle I remember most while growing up. You were always so cheery, radiating positivity. I never have and never will forget that resounding voice when you’d greet someone or call their name, that classic, “Hey, Jess!” Always makes me smile. I hope you knew that you always had a way of making me feel at home and more comfortable when I’d be so shy or feel awkward. No matter how much time would pass – that never changed each time I’d see you and Auntie Moe and all of our family.. Thank you for that, so much. I’ll never forget that and will carry your memory with me.

Maureen, my heartfelt condolences go out to you. Fred was a wonderful human being. You were lucky to have each other. May you find comfort in your memories together. Also take comfort in knowing that he is not alone, he’s with his son and they will look after each other. Fred’s memory will never leave you. If you need anything, I’m here for you.

Maureen, Michelle and family, we will always remember Freddie for having fun — like the first time we met at the CNE in the beer tent or him dressing up as John Wayne for his 50th birthday or getting in trouble for singing on the bus in Italy after a few Peroni’s.
Freddie was a great friend and we will miss him.
I worked with Fred for many years at kodak Canada film finishing dept. He was actually my foreman while i was in that department. He was such a happy and friendly person always with a smile and always a person that loved a conversation. He was liked by everyone in the department I was shocked to hear of his passing. It’s not very often that someone comes into your life who thinks and speaks the same language you do. Fredy came into my life 19 years ago at a local gym. During those years, we traveled to Washington, Chicago, and twice to Cleveland to follow our beloved Blue Jays. We just clicked so well; if we ever had a disagreement, he would just politely tell me where to go, I’d laugh my head off, and we’d carry on.
To say “life isn’t fair” would be an understatement for what you and your family have endured in the last 13 months. Through all your pain and suffering, your biggest concern was your wife Maureen and how she would be looked after. Maureen, you are by far one of the strongest and most courageous people I have ever met. Through family, friends, and neighbours, we will make sure Fredy’s wishes will be looked after.
Fredy, I am going to miss you worse than you can imagine, and will think about you every day of my life.

He was an amazing Uncle. He was the last pillar left for the D’’Amaro siblings. My heart is broken. I will miss him very much. There are boxes of memories full of very good times. RIP Unc🙏
