elevated t7dP0 Obituary
elevated t7dP0 It is with great sadness that the family of Alice Popielaty announces her peaceful passing on January 4, 2021 at her Long-Term Care home in Toronto, Ontario.
elevated t7dP0 Alice was born in Warsaw, Poland in 1938. After surviving and living through the Second World War as a child, she made memories enjoying summers at her grandmother’s farm. In her youth, she was an accomplished pianist and piano teacher. She emigrated to Canada with her mother in 1962, with minimal means and limited knowledge of the English language to pursue more opportunity in a free country.
elevated t7dP0 After years of successful employment at Canada Life Assurance Company, Alice had the opportunity to take courses in the new field of computer programming, despite the existing hurdles for women at that time. She continued her employment with Canada Life and achieved great success, quickly climbing the ladder within the company to become a Senior Computer Programmer.
elevated t7dP0 After years of friendship and courtship, Alice married Walter Popielaty in 1976. Within a year, their family began to grow.
elevated t7dP0 While her career and family grew, she continually instilled and prioritized a culture of education for her children, which ultimately led to their successes. Alice, along with her husband, were committed to giving their children all the best possible opportunities, including instilling their love of travel and culture. Alice made sure her children were afforded amazing opportunities in their youth, including her son’s trip to China at the age of 13 with his school, and Katherine’s exchange opportunity to France when she was 16.
elevated t7dP0 In her retirement, she continued sharing her love of piano by teaching private piano lessons in the community and providing care to children in her condominium.
elevated t7dP0 Her interested included swimming, music, crosswords, gardening and reading. She devoted much of her time and energy as a caregiver to her family. Alice was overjoyed with the birth of her first grandchild in 2007 and was instrumental in her care and upbringing.
elevated t7dP0 Alice is survived by her husband of 44 years, Walter; daughter, Katherine; son, Michael; and granddaughter Emily. Alice was predeceased by her parents Vincent & Bronislawa Laskowski.
elevated t7dP0 Her energy and love will be forever cherished by her family and friends.
