We announce with sorrow the passing of Alice Andal Romano on March 3, 2026 at the age of eighty-one. The adoring grandmother of eight children, the affectionate great grandmother of two babies, the loving wife of Javier “Bob” Romano and cherished mother of Joan, Jean and Dennis; she moved worlds without having to show much effort. She was a formidable force of wonder, love and creativity. At barely five-foot tall, she carried two generations of her family with grace and unconditional love. She was a teacher, a wonderful story teller, a classically trained pianist, an artist, a poet, a world traveler, a great cook, a healer, had a love for all living things and always in service of others. She was a thoughtful friend, loving wife, wonderful mother, caring grandmother, adoring great grandmother; Megs…we love you. We will miss you.

I’m very sorry for your loss, Joan. I’ll always remember your mom’s kindness and her warm smile. I first met her almost 20 years ago and she left a lasting impression as a truly kind and caring woman. I still smile when I think about the first time you introduced me to her shanghi — and how every time I took some home it somehow never made it that far. She will be missed. My sincere condolences to you, Ralf, Kristen, Eva, Max, and your entire family.
Mom ~ Eva and I just watched your favourite movie ‘Beaches’. I memorized this movie because you and I watched it so many times together. I found your recipes all hand written. I will attempt to cook all your amazing dishes, one at a time. I miss you so much. I love you. Your Joan of Arc.

Time passes. We age. We grow. However, the fond childhood memories as it were then, remain timeless as it were now; yes, sleepovers with Turbo included.

Mrs. Romano was an exceptionally kind and warm‑hearted person, full of life and generosity. We always felt genuinely welcomed whenever we visited Toronto, and those visits remain especially dear to us. We fondly remember looking forward to her Filipino cuisine—a rare and much‑anticipated treat—and the joy of sharing those meals together with her and the rest of the family.
The well‑being of her family was always one of Mrs. Romano’s highest priorities. We remember how extraordinarily supportive she was in coming to Ottawa to help care for Kristen, allowing Joan the peace of mind to focus fully on her studies at Carleton University.
Over the years, she was also a tremendous source of love and support to Miles, doing everything she could to be an active and meaningful part of his life. It was clear to see how close their bond had grown.
Her kindness, selflessness, and unwavering devotion to her family have left a lasting impression and will be remembered with deep gratitude and affection.
Please accept our deepest condolences, Joan, Ralf, Kristen, Max, Eva, Jean, Mr. Romano and Family.

The news of Meg’s passing has been such an alarming surprise, filled with disbelief. Soon enough, though, my mind shifted to her strong Christian beliefs followed by characteristics I have admired over the many years I have known Megs at Mahogany Place – quiet strength, kindness, thoughtfulness, generosity personified.
I was preparing a partnership project with the City of Brampton and needed someone capable to spearhead it. I thought of Bob but didn’t know him well enough then to approach him; but I knew Mrs. Romano who encouraged me to call her Alice. She said, “Leave it to me”. Within the day, Bob was in my office ready to work. I thought “Wow!” “She little but she talawah” which is a Jamaican descriptive, commendatory remark for greatness in a tiny, humble body. Her response spoke to her confidence, quiet strength, the respect and appreciation Bob has for her and her decision-making capabilities borne out of wisdom.
Mrs. Romano supported Bob in his new nominated position as president of Mahogany Seniors’ Group (MSG). She became a bona fide member in the background, and assisted in one of our BBQ events preparing her specialty Filipino meats; she was the first member ever to decorate the meeting room and tree at Christmas with such creative taste using additional ornaments from her home; she encouraged a team of her family members to help wrap over 100 gifts for our children’s party completed in one night. By this time my level of attachment and closeness to the family earned my affectionate reference to her as Megs.
Megs has always been so kind and thoughtful and always expressing gratitude to everyone for the simplest of things, seeking tangible ways to demonstrate her thoughts. She creatively and artistically presented everything she did which displayed her care and the peace she brought to each of us. Such a lovely heart! So consistent in character!
Megs, you will be immensely missed but memories of you will live on.

Hi mom. There’s a big void; I’m so used to calling you to say goodnight or that I’m coming by to visit you for breakfast in the morning . I just don’t ever want to forget smile and your laugh. Things may taste and smell familiar, like your cooking but I know it will never be the same. I miss you lots already but I hope you’ve found your way into Lola and Lolo’s arms.
