elevated Absle Andy (Andjelko) Botić passed away peacefully on November 12, 2020 following a short battle with cancer. Loving husband of Vera. Beloved father to Allen (Lucy) and Susan (Jerry). Adoring grandfather to Julien, Gabriel and Mackenzie. Son to the late Ivan and Mare Botić. Andy will be sadly missed back in Croatia by his brother Petar Botić and family and sister Radojka Butorac and family. Andy immigrated to Canada from Croatia in 1969 and worked for many decades as a diesel mechanic. In 2015 he suffered from chronic kidney disease, but soldiered on for the love of his family, particularly for his cherished grandsons. He was a man of few words but of many jokes and he loved to tease others. His relaxed, easy-going nature was appreciated by all and so were his handyman skills. His quiet, loving demeanor will be deeply missed by his family who are sadly grateful that he can now rest in peace.

My deepest sympathies to you Mrs B, Sue, Al, and dear family. It’s never easy to say goodbye to those so dear to us and interwoven in all that we do. He was such a great man and the words selected on this obituary so beautifully describe why he was so loved and cherished. We are keeping you all in our prayers. We are saddened by the loss of a wonderful friend and neighbor of 5 years. Andy and I shared many good times together at McDonalds our favorite coffee shop. I will never forget the question Andy always asked me when I stopped their home. “So how many things did you do today.” Then he held up his thumb. What else did you do today. And so it went on until I told him everything.
But today I did only one thing. I mourned the loss of my dear friend.
Today you are no longer suffering and resting in the loving arms of you Heavenly Father.

Our heartfelt condolences go out to you from our hearts. I’ll miss my friend. You used to always ask me “How many things did you do today?” and I would go through a list of things i did. And you would always come back and ask “Is that all”.
Today Andy, I only did one thing and that is to mourn the loss of my friend. It was a hard thing to do.
One day we will see each other again.

Good Afternoon, Everyone.
We are gathered here today to celebrate the life of Andjelko Botic. For anyone who does not know me, my name is Kresimir Maly and Andy was my God Father or as we call him “Kum”.
Unfortunately, I learned of my Kum passing while I am in the USA and due to COVID rules I cannot attend due to Quarantine rules. I have visited a Catholic Church in Jackson Ohio, kneeled before god, lit a candle and asked God for a safe passage by St. Peter into Heaven. I know now he is seated at Gods table.
Kum was an incredible Man’s Man. In his youth he was a Mariner in the Yugoslavian Navy on the most beautiful coastline in the world, Dalmatia.
I know and remember Kum since I was born. My parents Zlatko and Maja become incredibly close with Andy and Vera’s family. Kum was a man of few words, but when he spoke, we all knew what time it was.
Upon reflection, Kum has etched many memories in my mind and sole that I will carry with me forever. Some examples include Christmas, Water and film.
Every time I see Santa Claus especially the image of the “Coca-Cola Santa” I smile, and I see Kum. You see, Kum dressed up for me and my brother Zvonko as Santa Claus who enter our home on Goldwyn avenue on one Christmas eve in the 1970’s. Kum had a deep voice with a barrel chest with arms and shoulders like Popeye. My brother and I where scared and yet amazed with excitement when Kum open his bag full of gifts and big red apples. For years I told people Santa visited me and until today I believe the spirt of Santa was channeled through Kum and he delivered a performance of a lifetime.
Water is an interesting substance, that is formless provide no caloric value, yet all life depends on water. I believe that Kum was born in Dalmatia (Kastle) and water was born into his blood. He lived on the beautiful Jadransko More, he swam like dolphin, high dived like a swan and became a Naval Mariner. My story with water experience was one of many wonderful weekends at the four seasons camp which had a large deep swimming pool. This is where Kum taught me the Man’s Man way of swimming. He said SWIM! I was scared and was holding onto the fence like a cat about to take a bath. But Kum did his thing and instantly 10 feet under I learned to swim.
Get’R Done! This was Kum’s motto long before it was in redneck comedy fashion tag line. On one particular family trip between our two families, we ended up somewhere in a small town in Georgia (Mayberry maybe) with a flat tire. The person who installed the new tires before the road trip applied so much torque that the nuts fused into the Mag wheels and cracked, mix that with Hot Georgia Asphalt in July and you have a memory burn event. We sat for hours at a Cooter style gas garage shop and no body could fix the rim. Kum after a few hours had enough, he walked into the gas station service bay and without asking took the acetylene torch while the service people were yelling that he is not allowed and they were going to call the cops. I believe Kum said some colourful words and still took the torch and got it done! In a matter of 15 seconds the rim was loose we changed the tire and we continued on our national lampoons vacation trip to Madeira Beach Florida. I think Chevy Chase was watching us…
In Croatia, many songs sing about the love between a Damlatinac and Dalmatinka but thank god, Kum being a Man’s Man found love in small, beautiful town know as Sisak and met Kuma Vera. Kum, I thank you so much for being part of my life and I will never forget the love you shared in my life.
I have solace in my sole knowing that you are looking down at us all and wishing us love, happiness and peace. I truly believe in my heart and soul; you are sitting with Kum Marco, Baka Rina, Natalie and many other loved ones around a beautiful table covered in grape vines, counting the Jadransko More waves, watch the boats float by, playing cards, drinking Runjo vino, singing and listening to tambourine and Mandolins eating Nadalina’s slatkoga od fešte; rožade, galetine, mandulati, torte and krokanti is now an everyday celebration. No pain just love.
