Andrew “Drew” Quinn died on Sunday, August 16, 2026, at the age of 87.
Born in Rutherglen, Scotland, on June 20, 1939, he was the son of the late Andrew and Rose Quinn (née Cairns).
Drew married Margaret Macdonald, the love of his life, in Scotland in 1967. Shortly thereafter, the young couple set sail for Canada and began the life they would share for almost six decades. Together they welcomed two children, Anthony (Maria) and Rosemary (Frank), and made their home in Bramalea, Ontario.
He delighted in being ‘Grandpa’ to six granddaughters: Abby Lessard (partner Emanuel), Sydney Lessard (partner Nathan), and Adelaide, Charlotte, Mary-Frances, and Celeste Quinn.
Predeceased by his parents and his beloved siblings Rosemary (Billy), Catherine (Kenny), and Joe (survived by his sister-in-law Philomena).
Drew was a much-loved uncle to his nieces and nephews: Stephen, Claire, Maureen, Paul, the late Rosemary, Janine, Adrienne, Andrew and the late Kathleen, as well as to Margaret’s nieces and nephews, Drew will be lovingly remembered by his family in Scotland, including his brother -in-law, Graham Macdonald, his late sister-in-law Irene, his nieces, Denise and Donna and his nephew Gordon.
He was warmly connected to the spouses and children of his extended family as it continued to grow across the generations. For many years, much of that close-knit family circle was centred around the Quinn, Hughes and McAllister family homes in Bramalea, while family connections in Scotland remained an important part of Drew and Margaret’s lives.
Drew began his working life in Scotland. He studied engineering at Stow College in Glasgow, earning certificates in engineering and drawing, and completed a five-year apprenticeship with Clyde Fuel Systems in Hillington as a fitter and industrial mechanic/millwright. He travelled to many continents and countries by sea through his service as an Engineering Officer in the British Merchant Navy.
After immigrating to Canada, Drew worked for Canadian General Electric, where his duties included layouts for nuclear power-plant turbine builds. He later performed millwright, machinery-installation and plant-maintenance work with Crouse-Hinds and Stearns & Foster Canada. He joined Northern Telecom in the mid-1970s, working in industrial and plant maintenance until his retirement. Drew understood how things worked and knew how to keep them working.
He devoted many evenings and weekends to coaching minor soccer. Drew also loved both darts and golf and became a local champion at each. Trophies were regularly added to the collection in the Quinn family’s ‘D-section’ home.
After retirement, Margaret and Drew toured Europe and took several trips through the USA.
A lifelong fan of the Glasgow Celtic Football Club, he was a founding member of the Bramalea Celtic Supporters Club. Drew attended several Ryder Cup Golf tournaments rooting on the European team at Muirfield Village, Ohio, Kiawah Island, South Carolina, Oakland Hills, Michigan and Valderrama, Spain.
Drew was a lifelong man of faith and a longtime parishioner of St. John Fisher and St. Anthony of Padua Roman Catholic churches. His Catholic faith was an enduring part of his life, and he believed in the promise of eternal life.
For more than ten years, Drew lived with Alzheimer’s disease and progressive cognitive decline. Even as the disease took much from him, it never entirely took away the man his family knew. Through it all, his personality and unmistakable charm endured.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Assumption Catholic Funeral Home, 6933 Tomken Rd., Mississauga, on Monday, August 24th, at 11:00 AM.
elevated GPfGq Friends and family will be received at a reception immediately following the Mass in the adjacent banquet room.
Donations in Drew’s memory may be made to the Alzheimer Society Timmins & Porcupine District (https://alzheimer.ca/timmins/en).
Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May his soul and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.

Uncle Drew was larger than life in our family. He was full of energy, faith, wit, humor, and most of all love. Our family traditions meant so much to him, and it is heartwarming to see them continue through our cousins and future generations. We will miss you, dearly, Uncle Drew. May you rest in peace. You will always hold a special place in our hearts.
He was an amazing grandpa and I am so lucky to have had 21 loving years together as one of his grandaughters. Blessed to get to carry on the “Quinn” name.
Mrs. Quinn, Anthony, Rosemary and all your beautiful daughters,
I was blessed to have spent many occasions with Rosemary at the Quinn household growing up. Mr. Quinn was such a sweet man! The loss is immense, but may the many memories you have bring smiles to your faces in the days, months to come. Keeping you in our thoughts and prayers.🙏
Diane & Mark Pitcher
Our sincere and deepest sympathy to the entire Quinn family for the passing of their beloved Father and Grandfather.
I recall meeting Mr Quinn on a few occasions at numerous Rivera house parties and he was so loving towards his granddaughters.
“Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.” Matthew 5:4
It was always lovely when Uncle Drew would visit Scotland, He was always full of smiles and stories. He was always full of joy and laughter and he is missed.
