elevated eOvoi It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Anne Benincasa on October 24th. Surrounded by loved ones at her home, Anne’s journey in life ended at the age of 73. Throughout her life Anne has touched the hearts of many and will be missed by her friends and family, and ever so deeply by her loving husband Lino and children, Jordan (Mary) and Mark (Amanda). Visitation will take place on Thursday at the Holy Cross Catholic Funeral Home (211 Langstaff Road East, Thornhill), from 2pm-4pm and 6pm-8pm. The Funeral Mass will be held on Friday at 10:30am, also at Holy Cross Funeral Home.

I was so saddened to hear of the passing of a wonderful lady, dear friend and colleague. Anne and I worked in the same building at York for many years. I remember the first time I met her was during my lunchtime walk at the Track and Field Centre. She was walking ahead of me but looking back at me and although I didn’t know who she was and wondered what she wanted, I realized she was determined to become my friend and a good friend (and mentor) she became. It felt like we were inseparable as we spent many lunch hours and coffee breaks together. It was a sad day for me when she took early retirement. I missed seeing her almost every day but I knew she was enjoying her days away from York and that was reassuring. Anne’s passing has hit me as hard as losing my very own sisters. I will always treasure the beautiful (and sometimes crazy) times we spent together. She will be missed but never forgotten. Sharing in your sadness…

Anna was a very special friend for me we had a lot in common. We met at York University many years ago while we worked in the same building in Steacie. She was incredibly vibrant with an infectious feisty and giving personality! I was fortunate to have been able to continue our relationship after we retired. I have warm memories of us getting involved in crazy adventures and sometimes a bit of trouble. I will miss her greatly.

We got to know Anna through my brother Nick and sister-in-law Vera. Our last time together was at the last New Year’s Eve dinner dance in 2020. We had such a wonderful time. She was such a bubbly soul.

Anne was an institution at the Steacie Science Library. She was kind and generous and we all looked up to her. We remember her legendary cooking skills and the Christmas luncheon parties she organized. Her vibrant personality lighted up our work environment.
