It is with heavy hearts and a profound sense of sorrow that we announce the sudden passing of our dear Anne-Louise. She was the centre of our family, our greatest source of strength, and our constant source of love and support.
Anne-Louise was the devoted and deeply loved mother of Matthew Tonello (Laura Lebel-Pantazopoulos) and Zachary Tonello (Sienna Clayton). She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Jerry Tonello (2016), with whom she shared a once-in-a-lifetime love and built a life grounded in devotion, family, and caring for others. She was also filled with joy and excitement at the thought of becoming a grandmother this summer, a role she would have embraced with boundless love.
Family was the most important thing to Anne-Louise, whom she fiercely loved. She ensured those around her were supported in any way that was needed. She always made time to listen to all our problems and always was practical in her solutions with some of her favorite sayings – “A journey begins with a single step”; “Knowledge is power”; and, “Fall down seven times/get up eight”. She lived those words everyday. Anne-Louise was positive, capable, and someone you could rely on to get things done. She always spoke with truth and honesty, and was a born leader.
A lifelong educator, Anne-Louise dedicated herself wholeheartedly to her career as a teacher, vice-principal, and administrator. She believed deeply in the value of education and in the potential of every student. Over the years, she made a lasting impact on countless students, colleagues, and families. Her leadership, compassion, and positive influence were felt by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Anne-Louise embraced life fully and joyfully. She was passionate about many activities – yoga, dancing, walking, gardening, reading and travelled the world with curiosity, gratitude and enthusiasm. Anne-Louise had such a zest for life and was surrounded by wonderful groups of friends.
In addition to her sons and their partners, Anne-Louise will be lovingly remembered by her mother, Antonietta Sabo. She was predeceased by her father, Michael (2014). She was the adored sister of Michael-Vincent, John (Lorraine), Paul (Ann), and Mary (Paul Kamerads), and sister-in-law of Alex Tonello (Joe Pereira). She was also a treasured aunt to Ashley (Andrew), Myles, Nicolas (Sarah), Alex (Stephanie), Breanna (John), Nathaniel (Kristel), Victoria, Megan and Colleen (Cole), and great aunt to Ewan, Ryan, Liam, William, Valerie and Thomas.
She was predeceased by her parents-in-law, Benvenuto and Lina Tonello.
The joy and happiness she brought to our lives cannot be overstated. We will miss her immensely. We will carry her love, her lessons, and her strength with us always.
The family extends a heartfelt thank you to the Emergency and ICU teams at North York General for their care and compassion during this difficult time.
In lieu of flowers, donations in honour of Anne-Louise can be made to the North York Women’s Shelter and/or the North York Food Harvest.
The family encourages attendees to wear cheerful colours that reflect the vibrancy with which Anne-Louise lived her life.

My deepest condolences on the loss of your beloved mother! I had the pleasure of teaching with Anne Louise at St. Elizabeth !
She was an amazing person and educator!
May she rest in peace .
Anne-Louise was a stalwart friend who walked many, many miles with the people she called her “FWs” or favourite walkers. I was privileged to be one of them. As we walked over the 10 years I knew her, she helped us navigate the tough times in life, with her practical, but caring approach. She came to my home twice to help me through physical ailments and I am very grateful. Losing her as a friend is heartbreaking. I send my deepest condolences to all her family most specifically to her two beautiful boys — Matt and Zach. She and Jerry raised them well.
What a loss, so young and vibrant…..Anne Louise loved life and enjoyed every day to the fullest. I will miss my dear friend of many years, and I will treasure all the memories of times we spent together. Rest in peace Anne Louise
My sincere condolences. May our Blessed Mother welcome Anne Louise through Heaven’s Gate. May she rest in perpetual peace.
There are not enough words to describe the sense of loss we all feel at this moment. Anne Louise will always be remembered as a charismatic, intelligent, gracious and compassionate person who always found time for others. We were all extremely fortunate to have been a part of her world. She will be missed immensely. We send our deepest and most heartfelt condolences to Zachary and Matthew and the extended family. May she rest in peace amongst the Angels.
John, my deepest sympathy for the loss of your sister, Anne-Louise. May she rest in peace with our Lord. And God give you and your family comfort and strength during this difficult time.
To Matthew, Zach, Uncle John, Lala, and the rest of the gang –
I feel so lucky to have gotten to know Annie over the years during our big family gatherings around the holidays—whether it be a big dinner, bowling, stair climb, or just fun times at the Sabo house in Newmarket. I’ll remember her for her sense of humour and love that she shared so openly. I am so sorry for your immense loss. This is so unfair. I look forward to giving you a big hug in person. Lots of love xo
My heart is broken as I say goodbye to my best friend, Anne Louise.
She was more than a friend to me — she was my mentor, my support, and my hero.
Anne Louise touched so many lives and will be greatly missed by her sons, family, friends, colleagues, and the many students she inspired over the years.
I will miss you more than words can say. Thank you for your love, your wisdom, and your friendship. You will always hold a special place in my heart.
Rest peacefully, my beautiful friend. I love you.
You are now my angel in heaven. Until we meet again. 🤍
You lost your amazing dad and now your beautiful mom. Your grandmother lost her beloved daughter. Your aunts and uncles lost their special sister and best friend.
No words-just sending so much love and support at this unbelievably difficult time.
We are so sorry to hear of Anne-Louise passing away. We were on a trip with her recently and I taught at St.E when she was there. So very sorry for your loss. May she rest in the peace and love of Jesus. God bless your family at this time.

I admired her spirit and zest for life and adventure on our recent trip to Southeast Asia when I had the pleasure to meet her.
May she Rest in Peace!

My deepest and heartfelt condolences to the Sabo family. I worked with Anne-Louise as a fellow English teacher. Her kindness and dedication to education, her students and colleagues will always be remembered.
A bolt out of the blue. My condolences to the family and to John, her brother. Anne Louise graced St. Elizabeth with her teaching talent and personality when I was principal. Nothing but good memories of those years and her wonderful presence. May the good Lord have mercy on her soul and may she rest in eternal peace.

We got to know Anne Louise at St. Theresa of Lisieux CHS as our VP.
A lovely woman who was genuinely supportive of our Arts community and the student initiatives. Too young. Condolences go out to her family at this very difficult time.
Mary, our hearts are broken for you, Mathew, Zach and the family. She was a force of nature, so strong, adventurous and just loved life. I still see her eating deep fried tarantula and crawling through the Cu Chi tunnels in Vietnam, she was so open to every experience and fearless.
Much love to you all
Deepest Condolences to you all during this difficult time.
I had the pleasure of working with Anne-Louise at St. Maximilian Kolbe.

Anne Louise loved practicing yoga and was always so regular in coming to class. She brought so much joy to everyone with her enthusiasm. We will all miss her so much. The 6AM classes will not be the same without her presence.
With very sad hearts

So so sorry to hear this, Mary & Paul and family, our hearts are with you, sending you all lots of love and comfort.
I remember her from high-school in Sudbury & after University we had an exciting trip to New York City.. She was a vibrant person!!
We were deeply saddened to learn of the unexpected passing of Anne-Louise on March 3, 2026, at the young age of 65.
We first met Anne-Louise a year ago at a gathering to meet our fellow travellers on the 17-day Splendours of South America small-group tour. It was a delightful surprise to discover that her brother John had once been a mentor to me during his time as Associate Director of Business Services at the York Catholic District School Board, while I worked in a senior ICT role at the Toronto Catholic District School Board. That connection made our introduction feel immediately warm and familiar.
Anne-Louise was a joy to be around. She quickly made it clear that her name was Anne-Louise — not Anne — and from that moment on it suited her perfectly. I was particularly touched by the way she embraced my hand-language. Our tour involved five internal flights, each requiring us to lug our hand luggage onto airport buses, up long stairs to the aircraft, and into tight overhead compartments — rinse and repeat. Without fuss, Anne-Louise would quietly pick up my heavy bag at hotel departure and disappear with it, only for it to reappear when we arrived at the next hotel. It was such a simple gesture, yet so characteristic of her kindness and thoughtfulness.
Since that trip we were fortunate to see her several times — at gatherings with friends and at Mahjong, where Anne-Louise teamed up with Margaret. The two of them enjoyed learning the intricacies of the game together and shared many laughs along the way.
We will always remember Anne-Louise for her indomitable spirit, her generosity, and the warmth she brought wherever she went.
Matthew and Zachary, your mother loved you and your families deeply. Our hearts go out to you and all who loved her.
With our deepest sympathy,
Mervyn & Margaret Mascarenhas
My deepest sympathy to all of the family. I met Ann-Marie many years ago when working with the City of Sudbury’s Recreation Department. At the time Ann-Marie was one of our lead Playground Supervisors. Her love for children was evident then. We had lots of fun years back. RIP.
Sincerely,
Fran Hannah Cottam
I had the honour of teaching with Anne-Louise, where we both started our career in education, at St. Rene Goupil, in Thornhill. I remember her as very intelligent, joyful and creative, loved by her students. I wasn’t surprised that she had become an administrator, when I bumped into her years later at some educational conference. I will remember her fondly and my deepest condolences to her family.
My deepest condolences to the family. I was fortunate enough to work with her at SMK. She was an inspiration during our meetings. MHSRIP
Condolences to all her family and friends.
I am deeply saddened by the loss of your beautiful mother. Working alongside her as vice principal was truly an honour, and I feel incredibly grateful to have known her. She was a remarkable educator and a wonderful person whose kindness, strength, and dedication touched so many lives. My heart is broken, and I am keeping your family in my thoughts and prayers during this very difficult time.
My condolences to all her family and friends. I will keep the Sabo family in my prayers.
My condolences to the family of Anne Louise. I had the pleasure of meeting Anne Loiuse at my 6am yoga class.
She had a warm presence about her as we caught each other’s eye on occasion when a pose was demonstrated which neither of us imagined we could do. Especially since we were the same age.
It is difficult to lose someone still with so much more ahead of her.
When my car broke down and I took an Uber to class Anne Louise kindly drove me to the subway after class.
I will miss her generosity of spirit.
In my tradition we say “may her memory be for a blessing “. My prayers are with her children and grandchildren.

Ann Louise was the face my husband Rupesh and I saw twice a week did thing in the morning. Her mat was opposite mine at our 6 am yoga class. She was always cheerful and smiling. We laughed and joked about things we could not do and I admired her yoga practise and will deeply miss her presence. Our heartfelt condolences to her wonderful family. 🙏🙏🙏 we’re in India and our last class before we left, we talked of coming back and meeting again. We will miss you Ann Louise. Om Shanti.
Matt – My sincere condolences to you and your family. Sidi and I are very sorry to hear about the loss of your mother. Wishing you strength and comfort during this difficult time!
Thinking of you and your family.

Sincere condolences to the Sabo and Tonello families at this difficult time.
To say that I was shocked to learn of Anne-Louise’s sudden passing would be an understatement. I worked with Anne-Louise for many years at St. Elizabeth C.H.S. My fondest memory is of her and Jerry, every year, attending the school’s “Rock Show”. Anne-Louise always came appropriately attired in form fitting black leather jacket and pants. She was an extremely supportive, knowledgeable and professional educator. My sincerest condolences to her family and many friends. Gone too soon.
We came to know Anne-Louise through a Camino walking group some ten years ago and were devastated to hear the news of her passing. She was not just a fellow walker but also a fellow Pilgrim. She was a force of nature and enthusiastic about everything she did. During Covid, a small group of us would walk in the park systems and that period, is when our friendship with Anne-Louise became deeply rooted. Ever since, we met regularly for walks, coffee, and meals, including at Anne-Louise’s lovely home. We are already missing our many garden chats. We extend our heartfelt condolences to Zach and Matt and all of Anne-Louise’s family. She will be sorely missed and forever remembered.
God Bless.
David and Audrey
It was a privilege to work with Anne and see her ‘create magic’ with kids. She was a consummate professional and a ‘full of life’ person.
Whatever she did, she gave it her all. She will be sadly missed by everyone who knew her. My sincere thoughts and prayers are with her sons and family at this time of great loss. She will be missed but never forgotten.
Mary
What a beautiful person she was full of love, adventure, and long time learning. She touched a lot of lives and created a lot of laughter. May she rest in peace. May all those who loved her feel the love today.
The Higgins family
My heart is broken hearing about Anne-Louise. She was never just a client to me — she truly became like a dear friend. Over the years we shared so many conversations, laughs, and quiet moments, and those memories mean so much to me. Every time she sat in my chair it felt like spending time with someone very special. I will miss her more than words can say. Please know my heart is with you and your family, and I am holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.
My heart goes out to the entire family, but most especially to her two sons. I worked with Anne-Louise at St. Theresa, where she was a very supportive VP. She helped immensely navigating the needs of our students in Special education. She spoke often and proudly of you both, Matthew and Zachary. May her strong and loving presence be forever felt in your hearts. Her future grandchildren will no doubt have a very special angel in their corner. My very deepest condolences.
Our most profound condolences Mary to you, your family, your Mom and the entire Sabo family on this devastating loss.
Though it has been many years since I went to high school with Anne Louise, I fondly remember her friendship, her joy, and the remarkable light she shone on all of us. She was truly one-of-a-kind! May all the happy memories help you get through the difficult days ahead and may she rest in perpetual peace. Sending you all a big hug.
I had the pleasure and honour of teaching English with Anne-Louise at St. Elizabeth many years ago. We had so many laughs and I will remember her fondly. I am shocked and saddened by the news of her sudden passing. My sincere condolences to Matthew, Zachary and all the family. I hope that wonderful memories will somehow soften the pain; please know that she was loved and admired, and she will be missed deeply.
