It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dearest and beloved Anthony John Metauro. God called onto Anthony on Monday December 20, 2021. He leaves behind his beloved wife Pauline Margaret Metauro. Loving father of Daniella (Cameron), Catherine-Anna (Daryl), Domenic (Rebecca) and Anthony (Giulia). Adored grandfather of Miri, Mitchell, John Paul and Kieley. Devoted brother of Albino (Janet), Bridget (Tony), John (Trish) and Emanuel (Angela). Cherished son of the late Domenico Metauro & Anna Metauro, and admired son in law of the late George Hainey & Catherine Hainey. He will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by all his extended family and friends. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Sunnybrook Hospital Foundation or the Princess Margaret Hospital Foundation. May he rest in peace.

What a shock. Tony and AL were pioneers in the recycling industry. Tony was creative with a can do attitude full of confidence and a true leader in recycling operations. I knew both as competitors and later as partners. I will miss him dearly. May he rest in peace

The Dewey family is very saddened by Tony’s early passing. In my years with Metro/Cascades Tony was a true blessing and just a wonderful person overall to work with and for! I consider Tony to be one of my three, with Al Metauro and Gary Sexton being the other two, mentors of my career. I loved when Tony was in the US as he always made us laugh, work smarter, and just showed us all how to just get it done. He was a true inspiration to everyone he touched. We were all honoured and humbled that Anthony chose us as friends. He should be an inspiration to all of us of how we should live our lives. Successful but kind and humble. Anyways the first to raise his hand when help was needed and never asking for anything in return. His passion was Pauline and his family. They were all safe and taken care of under his umbrella.

Oh dear, words fail. Thinking back to 1981 when visiting Canada for the first time to see family. Introduce to young man called Anthony, Pauline’s boyfriend. Liked him from the off. Polite, respectful, hard working.
Business then was two small pick-up trucks and the delight of finding “treasure” in any of the garbage from K-Mart and other outlets.
Over the years the respect and love for him grew.
The family and community will miss a champion.

Condolences to the Metauro family,I got to know Anthony ( tony as I called him) through Cascades, I met him approximately 12 years ago, since the first moment he was nothing but the nicest person with the passion of working, even though his position in the company he was still drawn to driving a forklift, loader or just getting his hands dirty with the little jobs, always gave me advice or the little nudge on the shoulder and say… why aren’t you doing it this way, this is what I did so sure enough I’d jump at the opportunity to try his ways… Tony may you Rest In Peace and know everything you did mattered…you will be very missed…

For many of those first few years I tried to out work him, out think him or just tried to get in before him….I never won as he was unbeatable so I sat and learned from the best on how to do it right.
