elevated PJPTY Obituary
With profound sadness, the family of Antonietta Falcone announces her peaceful passing. While reunited with her beloved husband Felice, her sister Lucia, and her parents Michelina and Donato Spinelli, she leaves behind her daughters Carmen Grandilli (Peter), Susan Falcone (Ives Mazzarolo, and Patricia Busca(Dennis); her grandchildren Linda Grandilli-Hyland, Carla Gradilli, Sarah Falcone, Gabriel, Ariana and Fabiano Busca; and her great-grandchildren William, Reed, and Finn Hyland. She is also survived by her brother Antonio (Rita) Spinelli, her sister Donata(Antonio) Di Iulio, and many beloved nieces and nephews.

elevated PJPTY Antonietta’s was not a small life by any measure. Born in Sant’Elia a Pianisi, Campobasso, Italy, she came of age with a hunger for knowledge, borrowing books from the nuns and working the fields alongside her widowed mother. Twice in her lifetime, and half a world away, she summoned incredible courage: first, crossing an ocean to build a life in Argentina, learning a new language and raising her family; then, at mid-life, uprooting once more to Canada so that her daughters might have opportunities she herself was never afforded.

elevated PJPTY What defined her, beyond her circumstances, was her consistency of spirit. She was formidable, strong-willed, opinionated and fiercely protective. Her joy was being surrounded by her family and the urgency to feed everyone who came to her door, ensuring the wine was poured and the espresso never ran dry. Her piccola casetta in Nobleton was never too small for hospitality. She sang at the kitchen window.

elevated PJPTY To her grandchildren she was nonna Ietta. Formidable, yes, but also the kind of presence that warmed the world around her and left if permanently changed. It was a privilege to come from her, and it is a grief beyond measure to carry on without her.
