elevated VesTc Obituary
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of António Arnaldo De Freitas, who passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, at Hennick Humber River Hospital in North York on June 10, 2026, after several years of declining health.

elevated VesTc António was born on March 22, 1938, in Funchal, Madeira, Portugal, the youngest of five children. After completing high school, he worked as a pastry chef before immigrating to Canada in 1959. In Toronto, he worked at Daiter’s, then at Rowntree’s (now Nestlé), and later at Labatt’s, where he spent 27 years before retiring.

elevated VesTc In his spare time, António enjoyed making wine, gardening, home renovations, cooking, travelling, watching soccer, and, above all, spending time with his family.

elevated VesTc António was predeceased by his parents, João Pereira De Freitas and Maria Da Costa Pereira De Freitas, and by his siblings, Cristina, Isaura, João, and Fernando. He will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by his devoted wife, Encarnação; his daughter, Susy Schumacher (Brad); his grandsons, Matthew and Andrew; and his many nieces, nephews, and friends.

elevated VesTc The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the many compassionate staff members at Princess Margaret Hospital and Hennick Humber River Hospital for their care and support.

elevated VesTc In lieu of flowers, donations in António’s memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada.
