Antonio (Tony) Legaspi was born on June 13, 1944, in San Ildefonso, Bulacan, Philippines, and passed away peacefully on September 19, 2026, in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada, at the age of 82.
elevated bBaw5 In the early 1970s, Tony left the Philippines with a suitcase and a determination to build a better life in Canada. With courage, perseverance, and an unwavering willingness to work hard, he began building a new life from the ground up.
elevated bBaw5 Neighbours and childhood sweethearts, Tony and Esperanza shared a bond that began long before their life in Canada. Esperanza later joined him in Toronto, where they married and began their life together. They would share nearly 53 years of marriage, building a life centred on family, friendship, hard work, and love. Together, they raised their two sons, Joseph Anthony (Petra) and Marc Phillip (Jerlyn), and Tony later became the proud and loving grandfather of Emma and Liam.
elevated bBaw5 The eldest of ten children born to the late Sesinando Legaspi and Rosa Ileto Legaspi, Tony remained deeply devoted to his brothers and sisters throughout his life.
elevated bBaw5 With a kind heart and easygoing nature, Tony formed friendships wherever he went. Through hard work, integrity, and a determination to always do his very best, he built a life devoted to his family, his friends, and helping others. Even after long days at work, Tony made time for the Filipino community and the many friends who became an important part of his life in Canada. He was always willing to lend a helping hand, help someone find a work opportunity, or simply enjoy good times surrounded by family and friends. Friendly and personable, Tony had a natural way of making people feel comfortable and welcome.
elevated bBaw5 For over 32 years, Tony proudly dedicated his working life to Westinghouse Canada in Etobicoke, Toronto. In retirement, he treasured visits to the Philippines, travelling with Esperanza and their friends, spending time with family and neighbours, being outdoors, reading and learning new things, listening to music, and tending his garden each year.
elevated bBaw5 One of Tony’s most remarkable qualities was his extraordinary memory. He often surprised friends by recalling names, dates, and details from more than 70 years ago. He genuinely enjoyed talking with people and took an interest in the lives of those around him. Kind, generous, humble, and big-hearted, Tony valued family, friendship, and the people he met throughout his life.
elevated bBaw5 A loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, Tony lived his life with a deep devotion to the people around him. The life he built from that first suitcase, the family he loved, the friendships he nurtured, and the many people he helped along the way are all part of the legacy he leaves behind. His strength of character, remarkable work ethic, warmth, and generosity will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
elevated bBaw5 Tony found great joy in tending his garden and watching what he planted grow. We find comfort in knowing that there will always be a place for him as one of God’s gardeners in Heaven. He will be forever remembered, deeply loved, and greatly missed by his family and friends.
