elevated a0LGc It is with great sadness and heavy hearts we announce the passing of Antonio “Tony” de Farias Furtado on January 4, 2024. He was 91 years old. In his final hours, Tony was surrounded by the love and support of friends and family members.
elevated a0LGc Beloved husband of Ana Maria (née Aguiar Moniz) for 61 years. Caring and devoted father to Luci, Suzette and (the late) Nelson. Proud grandfather of Connor. Friendly neighbour and approachable friend to all. Survived by several relatives, including sisters Fernanda, Angelina and Berta. Predeceased by his parents, Antonio and Maria dos Anjos, and his bother Jose Luis.
elevated a0LGc An avid gardener, reminiscing story teller and “newspaper reader”, Tony was born on the outskirts of the picturesque Furnas Valley; situated on the island of Sao Miguel in the Azores. In 1956, at the age of 23, Tony ventured to Canada. During his first year, Tony started off in British Columbia as an agricultural worker, then made his way through the Prairies, where he worked for the railways and, by year’s end, he found himself in Toronto (The city he proudly called home for the next 68 years) where he was employed in the construction industry until retirement, became a family man and lived a very full, productive life.
elevated a0LGc In keeping with Tony’s way of life and to keep his memory in our hearts, we ask that, in lieu of flowers or donations, you make a difference in someone’s life by taking part in at least one act of kindness — No matter how big or small the gesture. That’s what Tony would want you to do.

Rest in peace. 🙏🥰
Dear Lucy and Suzette, Anibal and I, Jannette and Anthony give you our love and prayers of support for the loss of your darling Dad. Your Mom was our Tia Ana your dad was the love of her life, and his love for her and his children was what we knew made him the happiest. He suffered quietly with his surgeries and never stopped his daily walks and never gave up. That’s a lesson for all of us. We knew that because Anibal and I grew up and raised our children always feeling like we were part of your family. Your dad was there for us when we needed him. He was the expert in solving our renovations problems. We remember Tio Antonio as always happy, relaxed and caring and watching tv never to miss the daily events. Our family gives you our heartfelt condolences as we know the passing of a father is a profound loss in your lives. May he rest in peace and watch over your mom and both of you from up above. Lena, Anibal and family.
To luci, Ana and families. please accept my condolences. I miss him alot. We first met upstairs on the 3rd floor, I lived down the hall. Then lived 2 doors down on A wing. I will do as requested.
Dear Lucy and Suzette, your cousin Andrew me and your uncle Tony pray for you for the loss of your father. I knew your dad as the loving father and husband he was to all of you. I knew him to be a family man . He was happiest at home surrounded by family .I feel so lucky to be considered part of his family. Andrew grew up, knowing Tio Antonio was the gentle uncle that spoke English so well. Your uncle Tony was never too far from home. He was there for your father and mom. We together wish to tell you that your father’s passing is very difficult for us to bear . Your uncle feels the pain that his sister can’t express for the love of her life. Your uncle was with your father the day before his passing and coming home after in sadness we relieved our memories of your dad and how much he meant to us. There are so many stories to tell but we were always amazed how he remembered everyone ‘s name and family of his home town of Furnas . He had such a sharp memory and a great deal of knowledge as we well know he was a phenomenal reader constantly seeking information. He was loved by all of us . He will forever be missed but he will stay in our hearts forever. Love , Elizabeth Moniz (nee tia Beta)
Luci, Suzette and Prima Ana, we are sending you all our prayers and thoughts during this difficult time. May your father rest in peace. Heaven has just received a kind soul.
