elevated reugf Obituary

elevated reugf TEDESCO, Benigno – Passed away peacefully surrounded by his Family on October 11, 2019 in his 86th year, after a courageous and brave battle with Parkinson’s.  Cherished and doting Husband to Maria Luigia.  Beloved Father to Carmela and late Kevin, Michael (Angela).  Beloved Nonno to Adelio (Zohra), Alessa (late), Marissa, Ivana, Ben and Alexzandra. Treasured Bisnonno to Mia and Melody.  Benigno’s life was the true Italian immigrant story.  He left his homeland of Italy and his town of Taurasi in 1956 to seek a better life in Canada with the hope of one day raising a loving family.  He worked extremely hard, determined to build a life in Canada.  In 1961 with a bridal gown in tow, purchased on Queen Street in Toronto, he left  Toronto to propose to his beautiful, new bride, Maria Luigia,  in the little town of Puglianello, Italy.  She said ‘yes’ and in February 1962 he married the love of his life and returned to Canada to raise a family.  He lived his entire life with a strong work ethic.  He had a strong faith in God to guide him through life’s challenges, Parkinson’s diagnosis, premature deaths of his younger siblings and the passing of his beloved, beautiful young grand-daughter.  Benigno had the classic Italian passion for food, gardening, and wine making.   His garden was his hobby and a work of art.  Benigno loved nothing more than to be surrounded by his family who loved him dearly.  His infectious laugh and humour were the highlight of family gatherings both in Italy and Toronto.

elevated reugf Benigno is predeceased by his son-in-law Kevin (Carmela) and his adoring grand-daughter Alessa, as well as by his sisters Emanuele, Ida, Antonietta, Concetta and his brother Antonio.  As well, he was a much loved and dear Zio to numerous nieces and nephews in Canada and Italy, and a kind, warm-hearted friend to those who knew him. The Family would like to thank the palliative doctors, nurses and PSW staff for managing Benigno’s end-of-life care in a kind and compassionate manner.   A special thank you to Nurse Neesha. In lieu of a reception the Family will be donating proceeds to Food Bank Canada. In lieu of flowers, and in the spirit of giving thanks, the Family requests memorial donations may be made to a food bank.  https://www.foodbankscanada.ca/Make-A-Donation.aspx
