elevated OtZcK Obituary
It is with heavy hearts and a profound sense of loss that we announce the sudden yet peaceful passing of Bernard “Bernie” Nick on July 5, 2026, at Southlake Hospital, surrounded by his loving family, at the age of 74. He is now reunited with his beloved parents Bernard and Marianne. Dearest brother to Linda and her husband Wayne. Loving uncle of Amanda (Ken) and Mark (Sandra). Cherished great-uncle of Sophia and Nico. Bernie will be sadly missed and held dear in the hearts of his extended family and friends. He will be lovingly remembered and never forgotten.

elevated OtZcK Born and raised in Toronto, Bernie attended St. Michael’s College School before earning a Bachelor of Science degree and an MBA from the University of Toronto. A lifelong learner, his intellectual curiosity and determination shaped both his professional and personal life.

elevated OtZcK Bernie built a successful career in business and information technology with Bell Canada, Northern Telecom, Lily Cups, Ontario Hydro, Volkswagen Canada, and later IBM in the United States. His entrepreneurial spirit led him to establish his own IT consulting firm serving the automotive industry. Even after achieving professional success, he continued to challenge himself academically, earning two master’s degrees in bioinformatics.

elevated OtZcK An analytical thinker, and avid reader with a naturally inquisitive mind, Bernie had a keen interest in investing and the financial markets. He enjoyed following the stock market, researching companies, and engaging in lively discussions about business, technology, and current events.

elevated OtZcK Travel was one of Bernie’s greatest joys. He explored Canada, the United States, Europe, and tropical destinations embracing new cultures and experiences wherever he went. His appreciation for wine inspired many journeys through California and Europe’s renowned wine regions, where he enjoyed learning about local vineyards, winemaking traditions, and regional cultures. A devoted oenophile and respected wine connoisseur, he served as president of a Toronto wine club, forming many friendships and bringing people together through memorable meals, lively conversation, and a shared appreciation of wine.

elevated OtZcK Following retirement, Bernie moved to Newmarket to be closer to family and to care for his mother. Family was always at the heart of his life. He shared a special bond with his sister, Linda, and was a devoted uncle to Amanda and Mark, offering guidance, encouragement, wisdom, and plenty of laughter. He took immense pride in their accomplishments and was genuinely interested in every aspect of their lives. As another generation arrived, he happily embraced his role as “Uncle Bernie,” delighting in watching the children grow and celebrating their milestones. Some of his happiest times were spent escaping the Canadian winters with Linda, Amanda and his beloved Sophia and Nico.

elevated OtZcK Bernie was a true friend whose kindness, generosity, and wonderful sense of humor drew people to him. He had an extraordinary ability to make people laugh and could brighten any gathering with his quick wit, stories, and playful energy. Whether around the dinner table, on a holiday, or in everyday conversation, Bernie brought people together with his warmth and genuine interest in others. He was always eager to know what was happening in the lives of his family and friends, celebrating their successes, offering thoughtful advice, and quietly supporting them through life’s challenges. He treasured the time spent with those he loved. That same kindness extended to animals. His home was always shared with beloved pets, and his cherished cat, Maggie, held a special place in his heart.

elevated OtZcK Bernie will be remembered not only for his intelligence and many accomplishments, but for the way he enriched the lives of those around him. He was happiest when surrounded by family.  His greatest legacy is the love he gave to his family, the friendships he nurtured, and the sincerity, wisdom, generosity, and humor that will remain in the hearts of all who knew him.
