elevated n40hA It is with sad but hopeful hearts that we announce the death of Brian du Quesnay, who passed away peacefully at Credit Valley Hospital on Jan 5, 2024, at the age of 88 with his children praying the rosary at his bedside. He was preceded in death by his parents, Noel and Gladys du Quesnay and by his dearly loved wife of 43 years, Kathleen (née Kearney). Beloved father of Dawn (Aleks) Slawecki, Chris (Lynn) du Quesnay, Debbie (Corey) Henderson. Predeceased by his brother David (Goretti) du Quesnay, survived by his sister Maureen (Pat, predeceased) Harrington. Loving Grandpa to Elizabeth, Peter, Thomas and Matthew du Quesnay; William, Olivia, Emma and Katherine Henderson; and step-granddaughter Megan (Zachary) Azzopardi. Survived by 21 beautiful nieces, nephews and their families.

elevated n40hA Born in Kingston, Jamaica, on May 21, 1935, Brian immigrated with his family to Toronto in 1954 when he was 19 years old. He earned a degree in electrical engineering from the University of Toronto in 1961 and became a professional engineer. He married Kay in 1965 and settled down in Mississauga, where they raised their three children. He spent most of his career with Atomic Energy of Canada, where he worked in the field of fuel handling control and later in the area of probability statistics safety analysis for the CANDU nuclear reactors.
elevated n40hA Always a faithful Catholic, Brian had a deep spiritual conversion in the mid 1970s. This encounter with the Holy Spirit left him with a passionate desire to lead others to know the love of Christ, and led to a life of service in the church. He co-founded the Charismatic prayer group at St. Francis of Assisi parish, where he spent countless hours teaching, counselling, praying for and ministering to others.
elevated n40hA Brian was ordained to the permanent diaconate in 1990 and served first at St. Francis of Assisi parish and later at Merciful Redeemer parish. He touched many hearts through his homilies, bible studies, inner healing and post-abortion ministries. He may be best remembered for the well-attended bible studies he ran in the parish for years, even long after retiring from the diaconate at the age of 75.
elevated n40hA Brian lived a remarkable life and had a profound impact on so many lives. He will be greatly missed.

Deacon Brian was my spiritual father; when he prayed over me during a Life in the Spirit Seminar my faith life changed and I became thirsty for the truth of the Gospel, taking most of his bible studies, receiving the sacraments more often, and adoring of Lord’s presence in the Adoration Chapel at Merciful Redeemer parish. I love you Deacon Brian, and thank you for founding our parish’ prayer group and your contribution to our spiritual growth.
Our deepest condolences to Deacon Brian’s family, friends and spiritual children. Deacon Brian was a great Catholic, teacher, father, friend and spiritual director to many in our church. Had the privilege of knowing him for many years, and our life was greatly influenced by his wisdom and love. Will miss him very dearly, as well as his Bible Studies. May the LORD receive Brian in his Great Glory, and our Blessed Mother the Virgen Mary take him to the Kingdom of our LORD Jesus Christ. Rest in peace dear Deacon Brian!!!
Deacon Brian, was a family man and a man of deep faith. I will be forever grateful for his spiritual guidance, friendship and help on my faith journey. I will always remember his patience, good humor and knowledge of scripture. Whenever I didn’t quite understand something in Scripture it was Deacon Brian that I turned to. I will cherish our many conversations and discussions, on the faith we shared and our love for Our Lord and Savior. Deacon Brian opened my eyes to so much in our faith, especially the gift of Tongues. He always encouraged me to open my heart to Our Lord instead of trying to understand the mysteries of our faith.
Dawn, Debbie, Chris and the rest of the du Quesnay family that I didn’t get a chance to meet, please accept my deepest condolences. Know that I keep all of you in my prayers. May Our Lord, the God of all consolation grant you peace and solace knowing that your Dad brought so many souls to the Lord. I will miss Deacon Brian a lot and I pray that there is a beautiful place for him in Our Father’s house. May Deacon Brian rest in peace.

We are very sorry for your loss. Deacon Brian touched many lives & gave generously of himself. He was a very holy & anointed Deacon. He baptized me & married Rob & I at Merciful Redeemer 21 years ago. His ministry was powerful & many times the Holy Spirit would work through him & guide us. He recommended I take Intercessory Prayer training & it was humbling to pray with him as did Prayer Ministry for others. His Bible Studies were excellent as well. What a wonderful man. He was 100% faith, class, and genius!!! I have so many memores of him from when he was first a Deacon, to the morning prayer group at Merciful Redeemer parish. Love and prayers to his whole family. Deacon Brian, pray for us.

I am impressed with the Life achievements and great Spiritual balance Deacon Brian achieved in his life time. A successful , well read professional, who God chose that he proclaims the word of God to thousands, Deacon Brian touched many hearts, he always was concerned of Canada’s future on the religious horizon. He was really a true Patriotic Canadian. A true Catholic and a man of wisdom.

Brian was a Pillar of faith in Merciful Redeemer and such a brilliant man in so many ways. I loved his Bible study teachings and his great advice on so many topics. Had fun with him at our tea parties and other festive parties and at Tim’s. He was a good friend and I will always be grateful to have known him and had him in my life. I will miss him dearly. Eternal rest grant to Brian, O Lord! What wonderful memories I have of my cousin and his affectionate and ready smile from the days when I first met him on my arrival from Jamaica in the early 1960s. Alas, I was out of the country when he died and was buried or I would certainly have attended. Thanks for your devotion to the Diaconate, Brian. Your holiness touched many people.
