It is with heavy hearts that we announce the loss of our dear Brigid Belinda (Linda) Axford on the evening of June 30th, 2025, at Amica Unionville.  Linda’s passing was peaceful after living life to its fullest as an energetic and courageous woman.

elevated KCqVn Linda is predeceased by her husband, George, parents James and Annie May Coleman, brothers Thomas and Bert, sisters Mary and Anne.  She is survived by her sister Lily, sons James, David (Christine), John (Nancy), grandson Jacob, and her many nieces and nephews. 

elevated KCqVn Linda was born on July 23, 1933, in Ballymote, County Sligo, Ireland.  She often spoke about growing up in her beloved homestead with her brothers and sisters. Upon graduating from school with honours, she worked at a local hospital until her early 20’s. Linda then departed Ireland with the intention of relocating to Australia for adventure and new opportunities. On her way, she worked as a bank teller and waitress in London and eventually made her way to Toronto.  It was through her job at the TD Bank at Yonge and Eglinton that she met her husband, George Axford, a pharmacist at the drug store next door, and they were married on June 3, 1961.

elevated KCqVn George and Linda joyfully welcomed three sons, James, David, and John, into their lives and raised the boys as she had been, to be strong and independent but loving and loyal. Linda was a devoted mother who still found time to assist as a volunteer at Sunnybrook hospital, extending her care and openness to the patients she attended to. 

elevated KCqVn As the boys grew older, Linda pursued a career in real estate, winning many awards for her exemplary accomplishments as an agent. In her retirement years, she enjoyed playing tennis, golfing, socializing with her friends at her club, and spending time with Murphy, the beloved family pet. In addition, she reconnected with her volunteer experiences through L’Arche Daybreak, demonstrating her strong commitment to this community of people with intellectual disabilities.

elevated KCqVn Linda took great pride in her family which grew to include daughters-in-law Nancy and Christine and grandson, Jacob, whom she held dear to her heart with the love that only a grandmother could express.  After George’s passing in 2002, following a short battle with cancer, Linda’s strength and determination led her to establish herself in a new home in Richmond Hill where she lived until moving to Amica in 2022.

elevated KCqVn Linda was blessed with good health but in her last few years, she suffered from dementia.  She struggled with recognition but still appreciated the presence of her family, feeling their love for her regardless of the fog that was preventing her from fully engaging with them. Most recently, she would often ask about her Mum and Dad in Ballymote, with a sparkle in her Irish blue eyes, and a longing to be reunited with her family.

elevated KCqVn Linda, we will miss you greatly and will always remember you as our spirited and loving mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend.  Rest in peace.  May God bless you and keep you in his care.
